HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Need help on H/H/H SG wiring.

Hello fine people. I need a little guidance before I fire up my soldering iron on this job.

I am not a triple bucker kinda of guy but this was someone else's warmoth project I picked up off of craigslist that I picked up for the neck alone. Of course I can't just leave the remaining stuff alone so..... here we go...

PUPS are all SD: Bridge=Full Shred, Middle=Custom/Custom, Neck=Alnico Pro II
I put all three in Triple Shot Humbucker rings. For those unfamiliar with TS rings they leave you with a hot and a ground after the 4 lead pickups have been installed in the ring.

Keeping the standard Gibson three-way switch I am looking to configure 3 volume one master tone, switch=BRIDGE/BRIDGE&NECK/NECK, leaving the middle 'always on' and brought in and out of the blend with its own dedicated volume (i.e. no on/off switch). I want to add one push/pull pot to trip the neck out-of-phase when pulled up. Which of these three diagrams would be best for the basic circuit? Do I just put the push pull in the neck volume pot position and wire like the DPDT push/pull pots like shown below with all other wiring being the same? Thanks for any guidance!

BUMP I think this is the circuit I should use, but can I just drop the push/pull as diagrammed into the circuit at neck volume? Am I getting this right?

Welcome to the forum.

Just FYI the 3-way on a Gibson 3-pickup guitar is not a standard 3-way switch - because a standard Gibson 3-pickup wiring goes Bridge, Bridge+Middle, Neck.

You can use the push pull as the neck volume, if the pot portion is the right resistor value and taper for volume.

Thanks for the welcome. It's a 500k pot audio taper which is what I want. Is that what you mean? I'm cool with all my values just looking for the wiring advice. Thx!

Yeah, that's what I meant.

I have a 3-PU Gibson Firebird that was wired like you are doing (minus the phase and triple shots). I've put it back to vintage/stock Gibson wiring now. Mine had the volumes oriented differently in the holes, but same function as what you are doing. (Mine had the middle volume where your bridge volume is, and the neck/bridge volumes were the top two, closest to the pickups and bridge while playing.) The diagrams seem fine to me.

OK I'm stuck with this switch. I am having trouble understanding the wiring diagram in comparison to my switch. On the face it seemed straight forward but I'm having difficulty understanding how the leafs in the diagram correlate to my switch as the count seems off and i believe the middle leaf is actually depicting the ground contact which is separate from the switching leafs? Can someone tell me how to correctly interpret the diagram as it relates to my switch? Thanks!

Re: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Need help on H/H/H SG wiring.

got a multi-meter.. best thing to use when your confused on how a switch works or what tabs you need

Re: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Need help on H/H/H SG wiring.

yeah but im not sure how a multimeter would help me figure this out as it relates to diagram b/c i'm not that saavy when it comes to multimeters and circuits.

multi-meters are invaluable in figuring out switches.. you set it for continuity.. and probe away... just lets you know when the switch is one way.. what poles/tabs are conducting.

We just had a thread on wiring HHH guitars last week. Check it out.

riight just like the continuity test i did on my strat shielding we discussed previously right? cool.... so u just flip switch into 'x' position, put probe at that junction, and see if it buzzes at opposite junction probe point where you expect the circuit to go (ie bridge)? am i getting that right?

Re: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Need help on H/H/H SG wiring.

here is the body with bridge=full shred, mid=custom/custom, neck=alinco pro II, all set in triple shot rings standard wiring ('cept reverse on bridge).
this is CL purchase thats goal was a neck trade for another warmoth I have. Left with old boatneck warmoth neck and the SG body with the SD's. I did NOT like a standard H/H/H setup so I went with the triple SD threats and dug in. Dood who built original guitar routed for strat trem (wha!?). Not my go to choice but I am rolling with it. He had an old, old Gotoh with screws for posts (ie no screw in seats, just screw in body). I got a wilkinson two post trem and bore it out but cracked the top. used plastic wood and trem will cover. yep.. one probe to the common. the common will be the tab that go from switch to the output jack..

ohh and here is how to wire the middle pup to turn on and off. just drew it up for you .. dont forget to ground the pole to the pot for when the switch is off .. or you most likely will get some hum.. . ..This will turn the pup on when pulled.. if you want turn off when pulled just switch the grounded lug from bottom to top and the wire connecting the two lugs to the bottom
here is without color.. but i thought id color it for ya..looks nicer and really is needed when things get complicated the 2nd pic

noticed a possible problem.. the tone control.. according the drawing you was probably following , the hot goes from the middle lug to the output.and the cap would be on the outside tab. that drawing is a tad wrong/unclear.. the cap would go either on the middle and to ground and one outside tab would go to output OR have the middle go to output and the cap on one of the outer lugs then to ground

in the drawing it looks like the cap is on tab 1 and 2 and 3 is to hot.. never seen a tone wired that way but i could be wrong
