Hello,
I sanded a maple neck down to 320. Used a very very old GF brand sealer - honey maple/Tung Oil/Urethane and it came out beautiful. I still have the hard coat that I used when I did a body that same way - all very old now. Question-I have a bottle of Rockler "Wundercoat", it says hard durable urethane finish. I originally used this combo (the sealer and wundercoat) on a body and it is still going strong, no wear, or finger dirt collecting ing the hard surface. I think I did 4 coats.
So any reason (I can't get around) I can't use the same combo on this neck? The hard coat is old, but it still feels brand new, like water when I shake it.
Thanks
Steve Buffington

Re: Hard coat

I like my Maple necks raw with just an oil finish...my preference says don't use a hard urethane finish on that Maple neck. lol But I don't see why you CAN'T...you can do whatever you want. lol If you are worried about the combo being old then maybe test it first before putting it on the neck? Also, can you post pics of what you are talking about? (guitar and neck)

Re: Hard coat

Thanks for responding,
Of course, try it ion a small piece. Feel like an idiot for even asking. I am going to lock this thread out of embarrassment.
Thanks,
SJ
