Hard Rock Pickup for Strat

Re: Hard Rock Pickup for Strat

If the JB is too hot to suit you, I don't think the SuperD would be the best way to go, classic though it is.

Something that's lighter than a JB, still has good mids, with tight low end: to me that says Screamin Demon. As mentioned, it was made for 80s metal, yet it still does a passable job when you're going for a more PAFish vibe. With the right amp, of course.

I will say, too, that I totally dig the PATB-3 that I got for one of my Floydcasters. Great sounding pickup, rich lead tone yet not so hot that I need to redial when I switch guitars. I'd say it's warmer than a Demon, less sparkly in tone and more vintage in feel. Not loose or flabby though- this thing can rock hard if you want it to.

The Breed is great for fattening up a thin guitar, and has decent bite up top to balance it out. Good choice if your Strat is a little wimpy sounding. Pretty hot pickup though- actually kind of a beast. If anything I'd say it's hotter than my JBs. Combine that with the big low end and it can get a little tubby under gain. Not a problem for me because I'm not a high gain player.

Put a hotrail in the middle position before you go too wild.

It might just resolve all your wants.

What? He says he's got a Strat with JB and one volume knob. He doesn't mention anything about having middle or neck pickups or even wanting them. :butkick:

Single pickup *routed* Fender Strats are a pretty damn rare sight....

For old hard rock sounds, if it's not PAF, JB, SD, or DD, the other popular one is the hot rail.

nice thing is, you dont even have to ditch your current bridge humbucker to get it.

And it's a sound heard more often than you realize. You'd be surprised.
