Has anybody A/B'd Celestion Creambacks and G12-65's?

I am wondering... They are sorta similar no? I get the feeling that the creambacks are the non "heritage" versions of G12-65's...

Hence, I am itchy, wanna try them Creambacks.

Thanks in advance.

I have not tried the Creambacks yet but if you check the specs and freq chart you'll see that while they have somethings in common with the G12-65's they also have a lot of differences too.

The G12-65 does use the same smaller magnet of the Creamback and the Greenbacks (and the G12T-75 too!) but the cones are different as are the dist caps now the Creamback and the Greenback use the same cone and if not the same very similar dust caps.

I'd expect the Creambacks to sound MUCH closer to the Greenback then it would a G12-65

A 60W Greenback is cool...

We gotta try it...

I shop off and on for a speaker for my 62 Deluxe.

Right now it's got a 1968 G12 Alnico Celestion in it and I love it but it has a bit of cone cry at high volumes at some freqs plus I worry about blowing it up. I had as Greenback in the amp for a while and dig that too.

The only new speakers that really interest me much are the Creamback and the Emi EJ1250...I might pull the trigger on one of them next year and see what shakes loose!

Cool...

Please let me know.

I am going to be doing a 5E3, with nice trannies and all. It'll be a head, and I've got two open cabs for it, one is the one of my Blues Jr. with a Anni G12H30 and the other with a Jensen C12N. I am not that optimistic about the c12n, and am wondering about them Creambacks...

Re: Has anybody A/B'd Celestion Creambacks and G12-65's?

We'll see where I end up...I do like the old G12 a lot but sort of miss some of the character of the Greenback I used to use but the Creamback is said to have more low end than a stock Greenback and in a 1x12 thats a nice thing to have!

That said I was recently reading up on the EJ1250 and have to admit it sounds really appealing except for the $300 price tag!

Re: Has anybody A/B'd Celestion Creambacks and G12-65's?

I have not compared them. But I do have an old G1265 that I had Orange County Speaker recone to original specs and to 8 ohms. They also recone Robben Ford's G1265 speakers to the same specs.

It's not my favorite speaker to be honest and I'd like to sell it. I prefer the smoother tone of my old Celestion G12 Alnicos and more recently made G12H30 speakers..

For guys with 100 watt amps and only a halfstack, these new Creambacks could be a real blessing.
People should really start referring to them as "new" Creambacks, to avoid any confusion with the old 70's Creambacked G12M-25.

Wow, I'm behind the times. Did they reissue the creamback in its original form, or is it basically a new speaker with an old name? IIRC, the original creambacks were really just greenbacks with a cream cover. They were just before the blackback, which is a speaker I really like as well.
