These pickups have caught my attention. I am wondering of someone could post a review of some sorts. Also, If you could compare them to Duckbuckers/vintage rails that would be a plus.

Yes i have them in my jackson. I can't really compare them to anything else but these are some of they only single coils I have ever liked. The cleans are great and they are pretty decent when distorted too. They also make absolutely no noise.

I have them in my Daytona, DB. I replaced a set of stag-mags with them because I hated the hum. I would recommend them highly as a close-to-single coil tone without the hum. They aren't quite as glassy as a true single coil, but they ain't bad, IMO. Clean or dirty, I really dig them. Especially in the notch positions.

I had them in my Jackson Soloist. I recently switched the neck pickup out for a Hot Rails since I was going for a more metal setup. However, before I made the swap I made a clip for future reference. I recorded it using my Jackson soloist which had Stack/Stack/JB in the neck/mid/bridge position. It's a tad long, but here's a narrativ:
"Seymour Duncan Classic Stack Demo"
1st verse: Classic Stack neck (clean)
2nd verse: Classic Stacks in neck and mid (clean)
3rd verse: Classic stack neck (dirty metal)
4th verse: Classic stack neck (dirty metal triplet and quadruplet runs)
Cleans were recorded through my Line6 Fender Deluxe Reverb Model, with a tad of delay. Dirtys were recorded through the Line6 Marshall JCM800 model with tube screamer in front.
I'm not the world's best shredder, but it was just something for future reference.

One thing not mentioned here is that most of the SD stacks offer a Power Boost wiring which is not humcancelling. So if you like to go ape**** with switches there are a lot of sounds available from each stack: series, parallel, split and power boost. When I was wiring up two tele stacks with separate power boost switches I found that it would put the pickups out of phase if one was in power boost mode and the other one wasn't. I ended up going with 4PDT toggle switches to reverse the phase when engaging the power boost mode, just to keep everything right.
I was pleasantly surprized with the sound of the vintage tele stacks when I built my first tube amp... I was using that tele as a "junker" to test things out and it sounded better than most of my other guitars. :saeek:

I did put a Classic strat stack neck model in the middle position of two guitars, and it's good .
Clean : nice but more mids than a usual single ( cause of Alnico2 )
Dirty : very good from blues ( light gain ) to shred .
And it tames wonderfully the hights and bass of alnico5 p-u when used with humbuckers , for a more rounded and less aggressive sound .
All good .

JammerMatt, you have just convinced me to go with the classic stack. i've been looking for a good single coil/single sized humbucker for my ESP. I'm going with the classic stack now.

Thanks for the compliment. Well, I went with a Hot Rails neck because I wanted a more aggressive neck pickup that was a little more fluid sounding for faster alternate picking. I think the Hot Rails got me closer to that. However, after I went and listened to those clips, I had forgotten that you can get a very nice clean sound out of those Stack. Especially when you combine the neck and mid positions, sounds like a very nice and clean dual humbucker - and they aren't too shabby under gain either. Those clips were recorded using a Jackson which aren't normally known for their warm clean sound. But, with those clips I beg to differ.

I have classic stacks in neck and middle of my Jackson DK2. I have a JB in the bridge. I find them okay pickups, but if I rolled in money, I'd probably seek a replacement. I think that JB overpowers them a bit, and they don't have enought highs and bite for me.

We're working on an update of the Classic Stack. The code name is "Stack Plus." A few members of the User Group have had a chance to listen to them at NAMM shows and such.

Evan, what direction are you intending to take the Stack Plus? Will it be a gainier, beefier version of the Stack. Say, between a Stack and a Hot Rail?

OK, I've divulged enough secrets for one day. :smack:
Not yet. It's still in the beta test phase. However, I can tell you that one of the artist beta testers was so bowled over by the pickup that he immediately spec'd out his new signature model guitar with the beta test version of the pickup. I can't say who he is, but he's extremely good.skyydogg01 said:

Unfortunately not. The reason has to do with some materials that are unique to those pickups which we don't have at the moment. We used up everything to build the beta test samples, and we won't have any more for around nine weeks. Sorry about that.Luke Duke said:

It's a conspiracy, Evan wants to keep the grail strat sound for himself! On that topic, Evan I'm finalizing in my mind what I want to wind on UGD, I know you mentioned metal baseplates for a tele or strat, does it do anything on a stack?
