Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

I'm not usually one to be consumed by the latest, supposedly greatest thing, but I must admit that this guitar has really got me interested. Has anyone played one of them? If so, what did you think?

Re: Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

Better question... I wonder if Eric Johnson has played one! :)

I saw one at the Fender NAMM booth, but didn't pick it up as I'm just not a Strat guy.

Re: Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

I played one. Very nice guitar, but IMHO, a good American Series plays and sounds just as good, for a lot less money. :

Re: Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

Doesn't it have the soft Vee neck? That's the ultimate Strat neck in my book.

Well that's good, cause I've yet to see an EJ Lefty version? LOL :smack:
I'm sure my American Deluxe Strat(Avatar red strat) loaded with Antiquities would give that strat a run for it's money, and mine's lefty... :)

Besides that,my strat has abalone inlays and locking tuners....SO THERE!

Re: Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

Why can't they make a fatas$ neck for a strat like a vintage les paul?

I like fat necks and I cannot lie,
you other brothers can't deny...

Wus? LOL.....Who you callin wuss? Chump! :laugh2:

Well,if my fingers were anywhere near the length(And other things)I could play a righty guitar upside down...Problem is,I can't reach to the really high registers because the longer horn is in the way...I just pay the wonderful 20% upcharge and I move onward from there...

That was my complaint about Strats, and Fenders in general...I LOPVE big fat necks. I wanted a Strat and I fif not want a Jeff Beck Strat (which has a neck that feels a lot like an old LP). the JV Strat has a pretty hefty neck...it's a V shape but it's 1 11/16 at the nut, so it's good enough.

John,
I would say that your red strat plays and sounds just as good or better the the EJ model. It is no secret that EJ is trying to make some money with Fender since he is not selling a lot of CD's these days.

OUCH!

Re: Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

I like the specs on the EJ model ... i.e., vintage looks, and a more playable neck - 12" radius w/ medium jumbo frets

That's what sold me on the JV...looks and sounds just like a 57 reissue, has killer hardware (same as CS 57 ri) and a much more playible neck (9.5 radius and MJ frets) and a better wiring set-up IMO.

Sounds alot like my wonderful blue alder bodied Highway 1 mongrel strat that has an early 80's American Standard maple 12" radiused neck, vintage bridge, bone nut,and a Twangbanger/Surfer/Surfer and Fralin Blender pot circuit, and a very cool pearloid guard....This is currently my most comfy and favorite strat...And it was all put together with much love and patience by myself....

John,

I had been wondering about that guitar! I was positive it was a HW1 (don't you just love those guitars!...I do!), but it only had 21 frets!

John,
blue strats are a whole 'nother thread :D

Some guy on E Bay was selling just the Saphire Blue H1 body and man I jumped all over it! Yes,I love the looks of the blue and the body grain, plus the body is light and has great tone....Some of my strats have 21 frets and some have 22,but it's never really been a problem for me....I just bend the hell out of the 21st if I have to...LOL

This guitar has become my absolute favorite! Last night the Twangbanger back in the bridge was a warm welcome home for this guitar...The Surfers in the neck and middle aren't too shabby either...

I Know brother. It was you early on that convinced me that I also needed a pretty blue strat to play "The Blues" on...Blue and Red are my favorite colors, but blue is king! :burnout:

Re: Has Anyone Actually Played an Eric Johnson Strat?

"blue is my color
19 is my number
women is my ball and chain"

or somethin' like that

... from an old Charlie Daniels song

[apologies for the Off Topic diversion!]
