Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

absolutely awesome. the best TS style pedal i have used. I built mine with the mosfet boost, and standard I/O...not the mosfet I/O...those were too shrill. when you build it, you will wonder why TS style pedals are so expensive...this has so many options and so much tone for little $$.

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

How's the boost sound? What music style do you use it for? Do you have any other od/dist pedals that you use, or does it have enough gain/versatility to be a desert island pedal?

It seems like a seriously cool pedal, I'd love to try one out, but I also have an unhealthy obsession with overdrive pedals and boosters...

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

the boost is a separate circuit, and it is dead clean. it comes after the overdrive part, but you can use it on its own too. i use it for the jazzy blues band i play in. and yes, i won't ever need another distortion pedal...unless i buy another one of these.

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

Have you adjusted the pedal to increase the gain at all.

I dont want too much more gain out of a tube screamer but some medium distortion would be nice.

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

I hadn't really tried this, since I don't really use any more gain than a TS pedal can give.

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

Me and Andrizzle both built the OD 2 to MOSFET specs and neither of us thought the MOSFET version sounded that great. I imagine if we would have built it to 808 spec it would sound great!

Yep... not a huge fan of it... (built mine to MOSFET specs) I used it for quite some time during the "honeymoon phase" and then got my old BYOC TS808 Clone out of the closet and haven't gone back. I really WANTED to like it and even tried to convince myself that I did. It's a bit thin to my ears. I usually put the "bass boost" mod on (i put that in quotes, because I can't remember the real name of it - it's the top-most switch) because of the thinness.... the other mod-switch (lower one) IMO is unusable and makes your guitar sound like a strained fart.

I was REALLY pumped about it when it first came out because I absolutely LOVED the tone of the original TS808 Clone ... nice beefy, ballsy overdriven tube sound... and I can't speak to if I had NOT built to MOSFET specs though.

Maybe one of these days I'll take out the MOSFET specs and return it to original.

AS FOR THE BOOST:

The boost is great and does exactly what you'd expect a boost to do! I actually liked the tone that the pedal got when you put on the boost AND the overdrive.... but I don't want them to be used in conjunction all the time.

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

So, I gather you can upgrade the boost and the OD to mosfet specs - seems the consensus is that you should go mosfet with the boost and leave the O.D. at ts808 specs?

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

yes, i tried it with the mosfet specs and hated it...so i went back to normal TS specs. Sounds wonderful now.

Re: Has Anyone Built The BYOC OD2?

I did the same, built it to MOSFET, didn't like it at all, took it back to the original specs and this pedal is fantastic. I highly recommend it.
