Has anyone ever tried Bare Knuckle Pickups?

Hey guys.

As some of you may remember, I'm having a Gordon Smith Les Paul made kind of in memorial of my Grandad that died in August (a weird idea I know), and today is the day that I go to fetch it.

At the minute the guitar has a C5 bridge pup and a Pearly Gates neck pup. I've never tried a C5 before so don't know if I'll like it, but I had a PG in an Epi LP so I know i'll like that.

I was reading through a guitar mag a few days ago and saw an ad for Bare Knuckle Pickups. They're a small company over here in England, who have a small-ish range pickups, but are also willing to change their designs based on specific user requirements. I'm now thinking about replacing the C5 and PG with a set of these, to kind of make the guitar a little more special.

I'm thinking about an Emerald bridge with a Stormy Monday neck (incase anyone's interested :)) Here's a link if anyone wants to have a look: http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/

Has anyone here got any experience with any of the Bare Knuckle Pickup range?

Thanx for any info guys.

Craig

I've seen a couple of reviews in guitar mags and they all had good comments, and they're customer service was good, like you say, they are happy to make variations etc., although I have not ever used or heard and of them...

Thanx for the reply Rinse Master.

Their customer service does seem outstanding, and they also offer a lifetime guarantee on all their pups. Which I think is also a great service to offer.

I emailled their website to ask a few questions, and the head of the company himself replied within a few hours and offered his advice. I'll see how I like the C5 and PG 1st, but I think I may change them for some Bare Knuckles, just to see how I like them :)

Thanx again for the reply.

No problem, I've been a little intrigued by them myself, so if you do go down that route it'll be interesting to see how they turn out...

Re: Has anyone ever tried Bare Knuckle Pickups?

now, i do like the sound of this  i wonder what eddie would say
VH II humbucker

The definition of vintage hot! The ultimate in brown sound for huge, clean, overdriven tones. When it comes to massive and dynamic sound, the VHII humbucker wins hands down.

Asymmetrically scatterwound coils of 42 gauge vintage plain enamel wire and unpolished, vintage cut Alnico V magnet ensure plenty of hot PAF chunk along with clear and articulate highs. Fitted with 4 conductor wirer as standard for series or parallel switching and wax potted to eliminate michrophonics. Individually handmade for individual players- the VHII has originality and tone on tap just waiting to erupt.

but the warpig??? overkill. i wonder what the output is >.< if all the wire is within the magnetic field, that IS overkill!!!

i wish they had sound clips.. if you do decide on them, i, personally want a review!

not cheap though .. but thats what you pay for handmade pups

Yo Craig, I spoke to Chris (wiring+setup guy at GSG) today when I went up, and I asked him about Bare Knuckles.

He said they'd used their more vintage spec'd ones and they were ok but over priced for what the are, and that you're far better off putting some extra cash together going for Seymour Duncan Antiquities.

So there you go man - Seymour Duncan Pickups as reccomended by Gordon Smith Guitars :headbang:

If they're not all that good, I might just stick with the C5 in my Gordon Smith, or maybe a JB if I don't like it. I have a seth of Seths in my Gibby LP, so was looking for something a little hotter than vintage for this axe :)

Thanx for all the posts :)
