Has Anyone Tried a Alnico 5 In A a Slash Bridge Humbucker???

I recently dropped a Slash set into my Les Paul & while I am happy enough with the neck I'm finding the bridge pup less than inspiring?

The main complaint that I've got with it is the loose & chewy low end. Looking back I prob. walked right into that one but I guess hindsight is always 20/20???

Anyhoo, now I'm wondering if it's worth trying a new magnet (more specifically a roughcast A5) to try & make my current pickup work, or if I should just go ahead and buy an entirely different pickup???

I figured someone on here must have tried some form of a A5 in one of these before, if you have, or you have any other helpful comments, your feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

Never tried it, but for the cost, it would be worth a shot. Or a UOA5. Worst case, you can always switch it back.

Adding an A5 basically, makes it a jazz model.

Get an A3 in there and you basically have a "diet" Slash pickup. I'd be careful with an A5 though, as it would make it so when the eq set for the bridge the neck will be too dark and when setting the eq for the neck the bridge will be bright and tiny. I'd suggest either an A3 or UOA5, leaning towards the UOA5.

That's going over to the other side EQ wise. You'll have a pretty bright bridge. I wouldn't want to give up the warmth myself. An A4 has a flatter EQ and a firmer low end, and would have a sharper, tighter sound than an A2. What about a RC A4? An A8 would keep the warmth & mids, add output, and tighten up the low end. Is that a direction you'd want to go?

I agree with blueman335, a RC A4 is a great choice.
I have never seen a polished A4, but clearly they must be available as blueman335 mentioned it.
In my other PAF style p'up's I tried an A8 and I think I am fairly alone in this opinion, but it seemed like I stepped on a boost pedal, it was too much for me. Huge mid bump, at low clean settings. IMHO.

I have polished & roughcast A5's, as well as roughcast & polished A4's, & I'm sure I've got A2's in both flavors too. I'm just going to play around with them & see if anything gives me what I'm after. If I haven't found anything that works by the weekend I'm probably just going to buy a Customer 5 & drop that in as it's a pup that I'm quite familiar with...

FWIW, i like the Jazz bridge. A very unrated pickup. I would give them a chance and report back your findings.

Just go ahead with a roughcast A5.

I like A5 more than A4, because A5 has a bouncier feel under the fingers. If it seems brighter, you can always turn down the guitar's tone to 8.
