Has anyone tried the 59/Custom Hybrid in parallel?

I'm putting a 59/C in the bridge of a strat and was wondering about if any of you have had experience with it in parable rather than coil split. I would just do it myself, but it hasn't shipped yet, so I want some advice beforehand, just in case any of you find it either stellar or not worth even trying.

Without a context, this question is simply impossible to answer.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Re: Has anyone tried the 59/Custom Hybrid in parallel?

I'm attempting to get advice from people who have done this before. I wanted to know if due to the 59 coil being wound so much less that when in parallel the custom coil would overpower it, making it sound more or less like when it is coil split to the only the custom.

Well, when you finally get it and install it, it takes about 2 minutes to see for yourself if you like it or not. Get a DPDT on/on/on toggle switch and you can wire it up to immediately hear the difference and which you like best. Maybe you'll even like both parallel AND split for different situations. Follow this wiring diagram:

I think I tried it out when I first got one...I liked split better, because that is what I ended up with.

due to the 59 coil being wound so much less that when in parallel the custom coil would overpower it, making it sound more or less like when it is coil split to the only the custom.
In a nutshell, no. Both coils are reading different harmonic nodes, hence the parallel sound is a combination of both tone-footprints of each coil, minus the comb-filtering effect on the lows, plus the humbucking effect.

FYI, both coils have a very similar output in mV.

DC does NOT mean output. The reading difference is due to both bobbins being wound with different AWG# wire, the '59 being about 5300 turns of AWG#42, PE wire and the Custom about 7000 turns of AWG#43 SPN wire.

Copper mass of each coil is quite similar, being the Custom coil not bigger than 5%.

Yeah, I've got 3 or 4 59/C hybrids that I made several years ago and they are all wired to split to the Custom coil...just because that's the way I did it. I don't think I ever tried them in parallel. But now I'm curious. If I can remember which guitars I have the 59/C in, I might just wire one up to series/split/parallel to see what they sound like relative to each other.

Re: Has anyone tried the 59/Custom Hybrid in parallel?

I'm interested too, I have a few pickups that sound more like a single coil in parallel than split not to mention the hum cancelling which is a plus.

Re: Has anyone tried the 59/Custom Hybrid in parallel?

Well, the hum cancelling on a Hybrid isn't as good as on a pickup with balanced coils, but it should still work somewhat in parallel. However, to be fair, I never liked any pickup in parallel, except the Duckbuckers and Vintage Rails which are wired that way.

Re: Has anyone tried the 59/Custom Hybrid in parallel?

It really depends on the guitar, the prails sound good in parallel, I have an hss tele plus and the custom custom in parallel just brings out more highs and less output, I have a DM tone zone T in a 69 thinline and in parallel it sounds much more like a tele than in split mode. Its nice to have the options with a three way mini switch when you need them, one thing might be a factor is all three of the guitars I listed have treble bleeds and two have TBX tone controls as well and that may make a difference, the thinline has 500k's though. I would use some triple shot rings as to have all combos available, I have DMZ VHPAF and VPAFs with triple shots in an Epiphone dot deluxe and the parallel sounds quite nice but to be able to choose which coil to split is a nice option.
