Has anyone tried the Dimarzio 59?

Just installed a 36th in my HSS strat. Could not rip that thing out fast enough. VV and air tech is probably why this thing sounds nothing like i expected for a supposed PAF sound. Way too much mids and output. I need a more clear jangly low output affair with a much more transparent midrange than the 36th. The SD 59 sounds like the ticket but thats not going to happen because i'm done buying humbuckers and will just go back to what i have in the parts drawer and live with it.

But i CAN try one more pickup because of the exchange policy. And thats why i'm asking about the dimarzio 59. Tone chart seems balanced if not scooped like the SD, but with no mid peak, traditional build specs, and lower output than the 36th (215mV vs 285) i thought it might be the right choice. I imagine no one has tried one yet since it's quite new and i can't find reviews, but if anyone has please reply. edit: the air classic bridge is a bit scooped and low output A5.....anyone tried that?

Best vintage PAF DiMarzio has done. I liked the old PAF, but when it became the 36th, I didn’t care for it.

My favorite vintage PAF is Seymour’s Antiquity, but I tried a set of the ‘59’s in one of my Les Pauls and they sounded vintage enough to keep in there.

My favorite DiMarzio humbucker is the Andy Timmons

The people who do say they have tried them have not said much about them. I am a bit surprised there is no video review of them on Youtube yet. Its almost like Dimarzio doesn't want people to notice they have released them. I was also very unimpressed by the 36th Anni. The EQ on the Dimarzio 59's look more like what I like in other Dimarzio pickups. If I had a guitar that needed a set of PAF's I would buy a set just to see.

I think one reason is it just came out, and another is it;s going to have a smaller audience sine it has long legs and won;t fit in most HSS strat. Thats why i now gave up on thinking about that pickup and concentrating on the air classic. When dimarzio opens on monday, unless i have some change of heart after reading something that changes my mind, i'll be calling them to exchange the 36th for a air classic. One thing that really struck me in my search for reviews is a poster at the DMZ forum said the following, and being a classic rock guy it hit home....
Larry DiMarzio himself recommended his Air Classics over the 36th anniversary set. I told him I'm a Beatles and 'Stones kinda guy, and he quickly replied "Air Classics".

The DMZ 59 is out now because i read it has long legs and it;s not gonna fit my HSS, plus a single conductor lead with external shield ala gibson. So it's the air classic unless they have something else that fits but from my search on thier site theres nothing else like it.

I personally am a Fan of PAF styles in this order:

1. Pearly Gates (You won't like it)
2. Dimarzio PAF (NOT the 36th - never er had one, don't care)
3. Gibson Burstbucker 1/2's
4. Duncan 59

I'd add the Seth - but will defer because again, I've never owned one.

I have a 59/custom hybrid i bought years back and didn't care for at the time. Tried it again a few months back and liked it, but I wasn't totally happy. But i wasn't sure if the stock mag was in it because i had robbed it at some point and when i tried it recently i put what i thought might be the stock mag in my bag of magnets. Today i thought to try another mag and i found what i think is the actual stock magnet. So i tried it and i'm really quite happy with it ! So unless the honeymoon ends and i change my mind, i may have found a good solution. Wish i thought to do this before i bought the 36th. I can't believe how lousy *I felt* that thing is after all the hype.

Love the Air Classic. It is indeed one of their best kept secrets. It's funny that it flies below the radar, because its very good. If you need to return the 36th for another Dmz that would be one to try.

The 36th is very picky about guitars in my experience. I tried one in an HSS strat and hated it. Tried it in a Les Paul and it was okay. Tried it in a different H-H strat and it was perfect-for that guitar.

Never tried the Dimarzio 59.

Off topic but for the record: Seths are Burstbuckers but clearer, brighter, richer. After playing real Seths, BBs sound like the "designed by" series.
