Re: Has anyone tried the WLH bridge in an SG yet?
Here goes, and I'm not a good reviewer but I do like these pickups.
First saw the video for the WLH set and decided to try them. So I had a set installed in my SG Standard. At the store, I tried it with a Blues Jr. and didn't touch any on the controls. The SG had firm bass and good mids. The highs were not strident or sharp.
At home, I started with my Express still set up for my LP and didn't change any settings. The bridge had more bass and mids than a 59. Then I flipped to the neck - as compared to a '59, the neck had a bit more power and again good mids. The bass wasn't lumpy or boomy and the treble wasn't shrill. The bridge, both together, and neck were much more even sounding than the respective 59's.
I realize you asked about comparing the WLH with a CC. I tried a CC only once. It disappeared quickly-made me feel like I was sitting on top of the bell curve and looking down a couple of long slopes to the bottom of the hill.
These are mainly classic rock pickups [maybe the way I play and how I have my equipment set up].
Also, these pickups split nicely. They sounded firm and not overly bright. When I first tried 'em, the sound made me go into "Wind Cries Mary" and "Hey Joe."
Have had these pickups for several months now and I'm going to keep them in the SG.
