Hate to ask: Jimmie Vaughan wiring with 50's mod?

I saw a couple of threads regarding these wiring schemes but the links to diagrams are dead (I feel like a tool because I have used the JV before).

I want:

-Master Volume
-Master Tone (N + B)
-Middle pickup open (volume only)
-50's Mod sounds cool where I don't lose highs by rolling the volume down

Then I could do something fun with the 3rd pot like a varitone or Q filter (?)

Diagrams? Recommendations?

Thank you so much

You can get a diagram for Strat 50's wiring here.

http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2009/Jul/Gibson_50s_wiring_on_a_Stratocaster.aspx

I modified the diagram for you, so that the 1st tone controls only the neck and bridge pickups, and the 2nd tone is empty (ready for your other mods.)

Any reason that you don't just want a master tone control? The normal reasons for moving the middle tone to the bridge pickup (EJ and JV-style) on a strat is:

1. tame the bridge pickup
2. no more than 1 tone control in the circuit at all times

A master tone would accomplish both.

Wicked! Thank you so much, I thought this thread was dead & buried. I want to get the middle pickup unloaded at all times to keep the brightness. I will be using Lace Hot Gold Sensors in the neck and bridge and they tend to have unconvincing quack in 2 + 4 positions. I put a real single coil in the middle and hope it will help.

Isn't this the same as a master tone but with middle pickup bypassing it regardless of position?

No problem.

For the "notch" positions, there's no difference between a master tone setup and JV wiring. You'll only notice the difference when using the middle pickup by itself. Plus, it makes the wiring a little simpler.

Ok now sounding newbish, how different is the master tone compared to what you posted above?

The first diagram I posted was what you asked for... the JV setup with 50's wiring, but only 1 tone control.

The second diagram I posted is the master tone with 50's wiring.

Somehow I missed the attachment the second time. Thanks a million! I'll probably try both.

Old thread, but what am I missing in the post by DMyers77. ? It seems he refers to 2 diagrams that he posted but I only see one!??

I’m trying to find an up to date diagram that isn’t a dead link from years ago that shows the JV/EJ Wiring with middle pup disconnected completely from the tone pots plus the ‘50s wiring mod.?? Thanks for any help
