Have a bead on a potential trade...

Still not sure if I wanna do it. I've been leaning towards british tones for a long time now and I've got a chance to maybe trade my Super Reverb for a Marshall Bluesbreaker reissue....It's sitting in my mind, boiling over....I prefer using the Dr. Z I have now to my Super for several reasons..it's tighter, does what I want more, lower wattage, etc. ....Any opinions one way or the other? Anyone wanna try to swing my vote?

That's a tough one!

I would see if I could A/B them and decide what you think when you hear them back to back.

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

Depends on the BB......is there room for KT-66s???
Some of those RIs had too little space for the correct tubes..or is it a head??
How about selling the Super and get one of Scotts beauties?:D

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

also some of the ri's couldn't power real kt66's without over taxing the power trannys. this problem was on jtm45 heads, so i dont know if it would effect the combo.

does the z have reverb?

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

Yeah my Z has reverb...I don't know if the BB can handle KT66's, but i definitely want to find out as i'd want it to be as authentic sounding as possible!

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

I wouldn't trade a Super Reverb for ANY reissue Bluesbreaker or JTM-45...NO WAY!!!
I agree!!
It depends on what year Super Reverb it is and whether or not it is stock... but I can tell you that any early to mid 70's or older Super Reverb with good speakers and tubes, can be modded slightly to make it sound utterly fantastic and you still get to have real, all tube, Fender reverb and vibrato.
Not sure what you can do with a reissue BB but with the non reissue Super Reverb you'll end up with a great sounding Fender amp that is totally 100% gigable, with built in FX and probably ALWAYS worth more then what you paid for it.
I doubt you'll be saying that about a reissue Blues Breaker.

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

Well those reissue bluesbreakers have been holding value but my super is a 1970, bone stock with the exception of one reconed speaker. It's an amazing amp and I love it, just a fleeting moment of insanity I think :) I've always loved those bluesbreakers...guess I'm gonna have to get Scott to build me one someday in a combo

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

My favorite cross between a Super and Blues Breaker is the Fender Bass Breaker.

It's basically a Bassman in a Bluesbreaker's cabinet.

Re: Have a bead on a potential trade...

Yea, definitely don't get rid of a super verb for a bluesbreaker. I believe the super reverb is the best amp of all time. But if you are ever gassin for some fat KT-66 goodness, look at the Dr. Z Route 66. That thing is simply a monster!
