I love this forum- you guys directed me to my perfect pickup a while back and I wanted to share results with you-
The pup is a Vox Coaxe and it achieves snappy/bright to solid mid-range using an entirely different approach than traditional pickups- Each pup consists of a tapped/full coil that is surrounded by a second tapped/full coil and the results are amazing- It is noise cancelling in all combinations and achieves the tone differences with combinations of the tapped coils or untapped coils. I got into the pup with the Vox SC33- Out of the box tele to p90 sounds- The guitar is well built and an incredible value, however, I love wide D bolt on necks, so I built the following with 2 Coaxe and a GFS cruiser to get a ridiculous number of really useful sounds-

The inner 5 way provides traditional pickup combinations, but the key to this design is the outer 5 way that provides the following taps:
1. Tapped on both Coaxe- Very, very teleish
2. Hot neck with tapped bridge- fatter deeper
3. Tapped on both with all kinds of cool combos with the center pup, including a Hoop to reduce thickness- this is a very 'fat' guitar
4. Hot Bridge with Tapped neck- Fatter than #2
5. Full wind of both Coaxes- Slightly thicker than a p90
Because it's a maple bolt on, this build is naturally snappy- But the big mahogany body just loves the untapped coils and the snap gets overwhelmed by the thick drive. Seriously, this build goes from tele/strat to LP junior with extreme sustain.
Many, many of you helped along the way- calling out Artie2 for design many years ago and Brian George for recent wiring help.
I also passed the news onto SD- I don't know how copyrights work, however, Vox doesn't seem to have plans to sell this pup and that is a real shame- I'm winding a similar design for myself, however, it would be great if this form of pup could be mass produced and varieties would be incredibly interesting (their are no variations, neck and bridge are exactly the same pup and works fine as is).
So thanks again to all- my 2 primary guitars are designs that you guys inspired (the other one is SD driven with a JB and a cool rails
Cheers,
Mickey
