Ok, I came up with this lick that I love, its fast, every note has got to be picked, I hear it in my head how its gotta sound, and when I try to nail that tempo it falls apart, you guys encounter this often ???
yeah but this is usually when my hands are FREEZING or in the morning, try warming up your hands, I also have lick I really love that is really shreddy and fast
hey! thats cheating!!He took it even further, and liked to splice parts of several trial runs together to make a Super Solo. It works great.
For solos that are basically running through scales, it's not a problem, but if you play from the heart, and like all the scratchy pick rakes, flubbed notes, and feedback like I do, then you're scrooood!
hey! thats cheating!!
that's what I said, and he was like "dude, almost every major-label heavy metal CD you listen to has spliced together stuff like that, and in the end it's what sounds best." for that particular project, I didn't have an ethical problem with it - we were already using a click track, we all played our parts separately, and pro tools basically was like a 5th band member. But on my stuff at home I just can't bring myself to hack up different takes. I do feel as though I'm cheating.
Well, the thing is the lick itself is a lot like picking exercise. Its a sequense of to frases second begining with the second to last note of the first frase.Work on accuracy, the speed will come with practice
I've recorded a riff, come back to it several weeks later, & not been able to figure the damn thing out.
What's wrong with a click track?
