Having fun with out of phase 2nd position- anyone else?

I built a really off the beaten path L5S based guitar this spring- it has 3 pickups and 2 super switches and 25 or so really awesome combinations.

One of the '2ndary' positions is out of phase in the 2nd position and I rarely expected to use it- I never use unmodified out of phase clean and usually save it for nasal crunch tones (Cars, Cheap Trick etc).

However, in this build, it's getting a lot of use! It's a monster mahogany body, so it's very fat and full of sustain (imagine a really big/heavy les paul jr) and I've found that the out of phase works wonderful to thin out for 60s rhytem (Gimee shelter is a good example) or more modern stratish parts (Lost you in the Canyon- Marc Cohen).

Quite surprised and wonder if any of you have recent out of phase experience? (Not talking about Series out of Phase or Half out of Phase- very different sounds)

Are you talking neck and bridge in parallel out of phase (classic Peter Green)? Or is the middle pickup involved?

In this case, it's the middle pup with the bridge, but still fairly close to the Green sound.

The pups are thick and it's a warm body- if it was a strat it would be hyper nasal.

But it's close enough and I guess I'm interested in any recent out of phase experience from any combination of pups.

Bump... Maybe I'm the only one loving this sound?

The series out of phase on less powerful pups is actually closer than I imagined to the pure out of phase on this guitar (using medium high crunch) so maybe I'm just loving the pups again.

Or maybe it's just a change of pace. And I still don't like it out of the mix- But it really cuts trough without being overkill- nice to use with call and response when I need to be careful not to overpower vocals.

Wow, that is one cool instrument! I would probably have trouble remembering all the combinations, but I but I would like trying. My Strat has a stock setting where the bridge and middle are in series, and it is an interesting sound I find myself using more. I used to hate it. While I generally don't like out of phase tones, it is interesting to me how our tastes change over time.

Thanks Mincer-
It's actually easier to get around than you might imagine- The inner 5 way is normal strat positions- it's the outer 5 way that dials in all of the funky stuff and I can just leave it on overwound or underwound if I get into trouble;)

I'm just starting to play out with it and finding combinations that I just never imagined by messing with the outer switch-

And yep, I guess old dogs can learn- I would never have imagined that out of phase would be so useful.
