Weirdness with Seth Lover bridge and PG Neck. Middle position sounds out of phase.

This is my first experience with a yucky sounding middle position with Duncan humbuckers in a Les Paul. The guitar sounds out of phase. That's weird because the SL replaced another similar pickup and the middle position sounded nice. The SL is 2 conductor, the PG is 4 conductor and the wiring is correct. Both pickups sound plenty good on their own. The SL sounded great in another guitar but it wasn't paired with a PGn. Is this just something to expect with this combo? Since both pickups are Duncans, I didn't figure that this would happen - but - Seymour Duncan marketing does tell us that some pickups won't sound that great together. I'd be interested in hearing from people who have tried this combo.

i dont recall trying that combo, but i cant see why it wouldnt work. ive swapped a pg for a seth and didnt have any issues. they should be in phase with each other from the factory but its worth swapping things to double check

That is weird. Maybe swapping the PGn black / green wires will fix it?

Yep I tried that right after creating this post and there it was. Thanks for the suggestion anyway because that works for some reason. Still not sure why that is an issue when pairing 2 SD pickups.

Hi Jeremy. I possibly didn't notice that the same problem existed with the previous bridge pickup because I checked out various pickups quickly. Sometimes it's hard for an old guy to remember stuff. Now I'm thinking that the PGn might have reverse polarity. It's pretty new so I'll see if I can exchange it.

Very rarely, a pickup leaves the factory being in the wrong phase. It isn't very common, but maybe your solution will help someone else that researches that issue.

You can flip the magnet yourself if you want

The coils are bad

Just the magnet is reversed

The side facing the slugs should be facing the screws

Simple

You can spin it 180 degrees like a clock face

Or roll it over like you turning in bed

But don't do both or you will land back where you are
