Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

I am sure this has been done before but I am curious how many members can correctly name the pickups in this short clip. I laid down a simple rhythm, repeated it with two other guitars, THEN took those same clips and solo'd over them. This file is only 1MB- very easy download. I think this will be pretty tough. It is amazing to me how similar they all sound. The set-up was exactly the same for all guitars. There is no double tracking or anything. One guitar playing rhythm, one comes in playing lead, bass and basic drums. The entire thing took 30 minutes to record.

It is 6, 4 bar sections, each is separated by a cymbal crash.
The first three are w/o a lead, the second three are w/ a vanilla lead. Pickups are a C5, CC and JB. Could be in any order....

Guitars:
GMW alder strat, maple fingerboard, CC in bridge
ESP Custom Shop MII alder strat, rosewood fingerboard, JB in bridge
Ibanez Jem 7VSBL, rosewood fingerboard, C5 in bridge

When there is a lead, the same guitar was used on rhythm and lead parts. Post your answers in this format:

C5
CC
JB
C5
CC
JB

(there are six clips, 2 with each pickup)

Go hear to download... It is called C5 CC JB Compared

Soundclicks has been going down a lot so you may need to try a couple times :yell:

I'll post the proper order in a couple days.

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

Ok.....kinda confused. But I will say for the:
First solo: JB
Second Solo: CC
Last Solo:C5

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

I think picking those last three clips (with the solo) are the hardest. I think it is easier listening to each pickup without a lead- the first three, and trying to tell.

Like I said, I will be surprised if someone can get all 6 correct.

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

I can't. I swear I listened and listened. It is a amzing how close they sound. Rhythm wise especially.

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

I'll give it a couple days before I say if you guys are right or wrong.... anyone else want a shot?

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

I have no clue. I just have used the Jb for a wile but I've changed it because I've discovered that I am not a big fan of this high ouput pickups. I can taste subtle diferences in the solos but almost any in the rythm. Anyway you are ussing too much gain and that just hides the tone of the pickups. I think we are just hearing the amp.

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

There isn't an excessive amount of gain IMO. Not anything like I could get out of my VHT Pitbull or a Bogner Ubershcall. This is more of an 80s type guitar sound. I don't turn my mids to "0" like some guys do, I like a little mids. This was actually done with a POD XT. I do agree that it is very difficult to tell. I could tell more difference when I was playing the clips versus how they sound being played back.

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

Here is the correct order of the pickups as they appear in the clip:

1st Custom Custom
2nd Custom 5
3rd JB
(solos start)
4th Custom 5
5th JB
6th Custom Custom

Agree. Maybe the PODxt is "modelling" too much.

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

wow! I got them right! Yay! :) (I'm a real big fan of the C5 and CC so I guess I'm biased. =))

Re: Head to Head: C5, CC and JB MP3

It's amazing how they all sound almost identical which always brings me back to the fact that the amp and guitar matter mopst...then the pickups.
Great clips!! Thanks.
