headbangers: tube combo help

hello I'm looking for an all-tube combo, either 1x12 or 2x12 that can provide an agressive thrash metal tone without having to use any pedals. just guitar-cord-amp and headbanging carnage.

the PV 6505 combo comes up a lot, and the price is right. I also see that Krank has the Revolution combo.

any others I should check out?

from what I've read, the Marshall DSL/TSL combos need boosting upfront. don't want to go there.

anyone have experience with the Carvin V3? I've read about reliability issues and some owners having to keep sending their V3 back to Carvin..? (the Carvin forum was no help and is full of fanboys and kool-aid drinkers.)

the H&K Switchblade looks cool on paper. dunno about the built-in DSP tho.

thanks

Re: headbangers: tube combo help

Try out a Peavy 6505 or XXX combo.

I scored my Mesa Mark III Simul Class combo for only $500, and with a guitar and a hot bridge pickup, it'd be great for thrash metal.

Re: headbangers: tube combo help

Engl Screamer 50 is a great choice for Thrash. A friend uses one in thrash band and his tone slays. More than enough gain, tight, aggressive and it cuts through the mix.
And compared to the 6505 or the Revolution you will have a lot more useable tones, since it's a four channel. Only problem might be the price since engls are alot more expensive in the US.

Re: headbangers: tube combo help

Genz Benz El Diablo 100 combo should do, I have the heab and cab version and its amazing for metal, can be tuned in for anything from marshall, mesa and anything else. It also looks like a friggin jetfighter haha

Re: headbangers: tube combo help

The ENGL Screamer 50 combo...or just go straight to Peavey and check out the 6505, XXX and for a cheaper (but still great sounding) option look at Peavey's Valveking amps, they impressed me a lot lately when I checked them out. For metal stuff you really can't go past Peavey for quality of tone and affordability!

There are different versions of the Mesa Mark III each denoted by the color of a stripe on the back of the chassis.
