Heads/Cabs/OHM Value?

Quick question regarding Heads and cabinets...Other than the convenience of matching the OHMS (i.e if your speakers are series/parallel)....Is there any adavantage of running a certain OHM value....?

In other words...What is the difference in running

1. Two speakers in parallel at 4 OHMS

vs

2. Two speakers in parallel at 8 OHMS

Is there any clear advantage?

Re: Heads/Cabs/OHM Value?

my answer: no.

the resason that amps come with impedence selectors or multiple speaker jacks with different impedences is just because different manufactures use different output transformers and/or wire their cabinets different than others. the only thing i can advise you to do is to make sure the impedence of the speaker(s) matches that of your amp.

some will claim that there are sonic advantages to using the "X ohm" output over the "Y ohm" output so long that you can match them both with the speaker impedence, and some folks try to get all scientific and theoretical about it by saying that the higher impedence connection uses more windings in the transformer...no offense to any of y'all :beerchug: . but i still think that the speaker you're using, the cabinet, the guitar, the pickups, ect are all bigger factors than which impedence you're running. i'll leave it at that to tell you to try all of the combinations that you can match, and find what sounds best to your ears ;)
