Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

Dude... it's at $165,000 right now. $165k will get you a SWEET car, not to mention several "decent" cars.

Or a nice house, which is always a good investment. You will not be able to make money off of this when we get to a point where the vintage guitar craze is not high.
If you hold on to it long enough you can likely make money off of it but still,

Seriously? Cars are like guitars, they depreciate unless you find that one in a hundred thousand that appreciates. (Like a Burst LP) Houses always a good investment? Tell that to all the people in Florida, California and Arizona...

200g without HEARING/FEELING it? No effing way. I think I need to stay at your house for a couple of days and just play it.

200 Norlins - many of which will play great, or one 59 of unknown quality? GIve me 200 Norlins!

The thing is that if you buy it for 200k and for whatever reason are unhappy you can easily flip it for 200k...maybe more.

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

I live about 60 miles away from it. But there's a local guy that I sell auto parts to sometimes who has about a dozen. He's one of the leading experts in the vintage electric guitar field these days (appraisal wise anyways), and he would say that $190K for a poor looking specimen like that is way too much. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it, and play it to death. But for $190K, I want borderline brand new looking.

GOOD LUCK!

There was a near mint, very late 1958 LP that sold at auction late last year, just before Christmas if I remember correctly but it sold for over 325k and was considered by many to be great deal on such a clean guitar!

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

I hate to say it but these guitars are just going ot keep on going up in value for a good few years to come.
AS many people have said it's all about supply and demand and the supply is minimal and there are enough people willing to pay the big bucks.
If I was a millionaire would I buy one as an investement... possiblly, but probably not.
If I was a billionaire would I buy one cos I could... no, I'd probably buy a Ferrari.

And I think if you can drop $200K+ on a guitar, you could afford a plane ticket to go to the guitar's location and set up an appointment to see it in person.

This is a market operating in a price bracket FAR above what any of us can see.

Not here around Boston. The only reason why you can get a condo in commute distance for that money now is the housing market collapse.

You will not be able to make money off of this when we get to a point where the vintage guitar craze is not high.

Chances for a condo and this guitar are about equal. There might be a permanent housing dip or the guitar bubble might burst. Chances are that both go up, though.

I mean Ferrari, Maserati etc. Or a really tricked out AMG or whatever.

That's about what a 59 Les Paul buyer could afford.

And it'll drop value like hell, certainly, and for the guitar it isn't certain.

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

Eh, needs the neck pickup cavity and the extra holes filled and to be painted a nice solid color.

:D

What it really needs is a Floyd. And two Invaders. Pink Invaders.

Nah, what it needs is a Floyd, fill the neck cavity and a solid color. Then 1 pink invader. And a hello kitty sticker. MEOW!

If you truly had a billion dollars, you could buy this guitar, a ferrari, and use the car as a guitar case.

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

Somebody bought a superman comic book for 1M USD. I figured, 500K USD is a bargain for a real deal 59 burst.

Now I likes ya thinkin :)

Thing is, I don't like idea of paying big bucks for something just because it's rare.
So a brand new Ferrari may be exclusive, and depreciate rather fast, but what you pay for in the first place is man hours and materials (plus mark up, but you get the basic idea).

A '59 LP is still a lump of mahogany with some maple on top, bit of rose wood, some bits of metal, plastic and wire.

No extra man hours have gone into it in the past forty odd years than a brand new LP has. So you pay for some bit of elusive magic that the '59s have, plus the rarity and the age (lets face, all '50s LPs are worth more than most of us could afford to pay).

Even if I had the money I'd rather pay someone to make me a new guitar rather pay ten times+ as much for something just cos it's old.

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

I only do last-second snipes so there. Relax.

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

Under 20 mins to go, lets see the snipers in action.

Re: Heads up!! A real '59 Burst Lester on eBay!

Last twenty minutes and the price has barely changed in the last twenty four hours...
Either there will be a last mad flourish or it's not going to sell
