Headstock template for bass build

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone here can provide me with, or direct me to, a template for the early-style P-Bass heads. The one I am talking about is a variation of the Esquire and Telecaster guitar headstock.

Thanks.

Here ya go. Hope its what you need. There are a bunch of different ones in that file. :)

EDIT: I think the one you are looking for is on page 6.

Re: Headstock template for bass build

Boo-Ya! Thank you very much. I honestly didn't expect to get what I needed directly through the Forum. Thank you, sir.

Where did you find that document?

Re: Headstock template for bass build

Believe it or not I used to be a luthiers apprentice, and teles were my favorite build, so i would troll the TDPRI forums for templates and building advice, and that file just happened to be one I saved. It's always good knowing you have exactly what someone else needs. ;)

I never cut out a bass headstock. I really hope it works for ya. Let me know.

Thanks again.

I am working on an early-style P-Bass, but I want it to be short scale with an all-maple neck. I couldn't find anyone who would custom make a neck for me for a reasonable price, so I picked up up one of these today through Craigslist for $100:

I'm going to carve the head into a Tele bass shape and take as much off the butt end as I need to to make the 30 inch scale neck fit the P Bass body properly. Then glue on whatever material is needed to take up the empty space in the neck pocket, defret, re-radius, refret, and refinish in nitro.

Only problem is, I actually like the bass very much. I love Musicmaster basses, and this is their closest living relative. I was surprised by the quality of the neck and bridge, compared to my other Squier SS bass. So I may actually keep it intact and convert it into a Fender VI, and buy another Bronco bass neck off of E-Bay to attempt the hack job.

Do you plan on decaling it as a fender?

Re: Headstock template for bass build

Well let me know if you have any questions about decaling and clearing the headstock. Good luck!

Thanks.

It is going onto a nitro finish, with no clear coat over the decal.

I got the first mock up in my e-mail today:

Looking good. I am going to take of the "Los Angeles, CA," though. I didn't ask for that, but I know why he put it there. It takes the place of the patent numbers Fender started using later on. I also intended for the stars to be out on the ball of the headstock, though I must say that they do look very good where the designer put them.
