HEAVIEST guitar tone

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

KS smith said it.. your tone doesn't have to be too heavy.. the bass player should be able to take it over the top if he/she has the right tone and skills... this coming from a guy who keeps the gain on 10 for the modern channel of his dual rec ha ha

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

Star Jones and Oprah playing dual guitars thru ANY rig.

C'mon someone had to say it - you know you were thinking it!

lol that made my day.

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

dual recto, feel free to plug a les paul into that badass mofo

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

Les Paul (tuned to B) through a Matamp Volume Unit w/ KT88's into a Matamp 6x12.

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

Ever hear "The 2000 Pound Bee" by the Ventures? Pretty heavy!

I always thought Jimi's playing on the opening of Purple Haze sounded like a Tyranosaurus Rex stomping across the countryside. Also pretty heavy!

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

I'll end all discussions right here:

Fender strat with a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge position --> Mesa Boogie Road King --> Rectifier 4x12 cab w/ V-30's.

Nothing could be sweeter..or better. :p

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

Seth Lover loaded Les paul, into 2 daisy chained Fender Dual Showman's, each running 3 speakers in a 6x12 cab consisting of 3 EVM-12L's, and 3 EVM-12B's. Speakers would have to be 16 ohms, one showman will run the B's, the other will run the L's.

I think that'd be insanely heavy, and it takes advantage of the lack of a head restriction.

sorry man, there are much much heavier guitars than strats

Wait until you try one with an Evolution. ;)

That would be a jem.. there are way heavier guitars than strats, better sounding? probably not.

I dont think evo's are that heavy sounding.

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

BIgBazz, you would not believe it, but you know how many guys, metal guitar players have said to me that strat is not a metal guitar ? I have two words for them Mercifull Fate!

Never said that a strat wasnt a metal guitar, i use one and i play metal.. figure that, theres just heavier meatier sounding guitars out there.

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

BigBuzz, I play metal, don't realy know how to play anything else, I love metal, play a strat with Duncan Invader HM, maybe there a meatier guitars, ESP, Charvel, but when in comes to leads Strat has that violin tone that nobody has !!! and by the way Accept didn't lack any meat on strats, at least Hoffman. What can I say love strats and love metal. Can you say Malmsteen ????

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

Eh....you can get heavy tones out of a single coil Tele, generic fuzz box, and a Fender amp if you know how to play heavy......

......and have a bassist that knows what he's about.

Some of the heaviest songs I know have relatively thin guitar tones.....it's all relative.

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

Agree about the bassist, if you realy think about it was Butler who took Sabbath from heavy rock to metal.

Re: HEAVIEST guitar tone

But this isnt about bassists, or thin tones

this whole thread is about the "heaviest" "Meatiest" "ballsiest" tone.

Which brings my point, as good as strats sound (and both of mine, plus my superstrat jem sound amazing), there are heavier and ballsier and meatier guitars out there.

Big solid chunky mahogany guitars with set/ straight through necks and fixed bridges and brass nuts and so on.

Take for example a Gibson Les paul, Prs Custom 22, Schecter C-1, Blackmachine B2 and probably some custom telecaster type guitars.

Im sure i love my strat tone (with full shred bridge, lil59 neck) to death and i know it can do metal very very nicely..

But the whole idea of this thread is as i said "the heaviest" in which a strat (and all the superstrats and strats ive tried, soo many), no matter how nice they clearly arent the "heaviest" guitars.

As for malmsteen tone, i dont think thats heavy at all, i think its damn fine and quite unique sounding in an amazing way, but its quite toppy and thin.

For the record, id use a telecaster for the heaviest clean tone (and maybe a Cornford MK50IIinto a matching 4x12 cab, or a splawn cab mmmmm). I aint tried the Mk50II but the Mk50 has amazingly powerful clean sound, id wonder if that could be improved on with the split channel thing it has going on, the reviews for it seem to be that it sounds like a fender twin on steroids(in an awesomely good way)
