'Heaviest' songs in standard tuning?

Re: 'Heaviest' songs in standard tuning?

Adam, since you're from the UK you might already know these guys, Sylosis. They are in Standard Tuning which is kinda rare for a Modern Metal Band, I dig em. They will be on Tour in the States supporting Lamb of God and Hatebreed.

i agree that its one of the Darkest/heaviest Beatle Riffs ever. Love that song.

My pick however is this (skip to the 4:30 mark)....

I don't care what anyone says. To me that is the Heaviest E Power Chord in the History of Music. Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Then you'll enjoy this. Now with extra Jason (best mix so far)

I know right? :smokin:

A lot of riffs in the low tunings in mainstream modern metal pulled back up to standard would sound like they more in common with country than metal. When you try it out, it's pretty funny. It'd be like, if you turned the distortion off they'd just be a pop band.

eureka

Opeth's Blackwater Park has several of the heaviest songs I've ever heard in standard tuning; my top picks are 'The Drapery Falls' and 'The Leper Affinity'. Though it's in drop-D, the title track is also amazingly heavy.

Absolutely incredible band.

This was played in standard, but you're actually hearing it at a higher pitch because it was apparently sped up. Still brutal!

A lot of Rammstein actually is in standard E tuning.
Also a lot of Judas Priest, and quite some Motörhead, too.
If E flat is fine, there's a lot more Motörhead to play :1:

Of course AC/DC plays a lot in E standard and E flat, too. Don't tell me "Whole lotta Rosie" doesn't rock...

Shinedown has some E flat songs, too.
