So I've been lucky to test some of mentalhammer's metal amp builds. It's been a load of fun, so we've tracked some clips. Well, here they go - oldest to most recent. Enjoy!


Ran Cruiser w/ EMG 85/S/S.
"Troll" preamp.
Marshall 9100 poweramp (two 5881 in push pull).


BC Rich Stealth w/ Dimarzio X2N.
Modded Marshall 2204.


Fender HM Strat w/ Dimarzio Super 3/HS-2/HS-2
Zuk amp. More or less a tweaked "Black" preamp + dual 6L6 poweramp.


Jackson Stealth w/ Duncan JB.
Zuk amp.

Cool - they all sound good. I guess I like the first 2 the best. Is there a thread about his amps/mods? I don't know what the black, silver, zuk are.

Cheers, DankStar. There isn't a thread about the amps. The names are just callnames we use to refer to different builds/topologies. They could be "amp A, amp B, amp C" just as well.

The preamps were built from scratch in rack enclosures and tweaked many times. The "Zuk" is a point to point amp in a rack case. Actually, it is its owner's nickname. It's a purpose-built single channel high gain head with a footswitchable, tube driven effects loop.
