Anyone out there that wants to know the creators of TRUE Heavy guitar, go download "Into The Void" by Black Sabbath.

Now THAT is heavy detuned metal if I ever heard it. Thank you Tony Iommi, thank you very much.

I figured it out a long time ago and I just figured it out again. :fing25:

It's been a while since I listened to it.

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

Yep, Iommi/Sabbath are definitely the kings of riffs and heavy guitar.

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

No Sabbath = No Metal.
End of story, full stop, do not pass go, do NOT collect $200.

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

For a moment I thought this was going to be one of those Darkness moments!!!!! - phew what a relief :smack:

Did you you know that due to a factory accident on his right hand Tony Iommi used very light strings and tuned all the way down to C# to give that demonic sound and also used Laney heads and cabs. Heavy man!!

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

Proves to show that you can be heavy without going overboard on the distortion.

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

I was just listening to Master Of Reality at work and thought I'd post a little reminder here of who really layed the ground for the heavy stuff (IMO)....gotta praise Tony and Sabbath now and then...the metal gods.

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

I'm currently working through Troy Stetina's Best of Black Sabbath. Tabs and CD. Just rented their Last Supper DVD over the weekend. Great stuff.

Hahaha. That's funny you say that, I was thinking about that before I hit that post button. But, hey, I'm not saying that you can't be heavy 'WITHFULLDISTORTION'. Because you can. I do! :werd:

Re: Heavy Metal...defined

Yah, Iommi lost the tips of two of his fingers and made some weird leather things to replace them... but he still cant play very fast or complex because of it, but Sabbath still kicks! I believe he uses 9's always btu i dont think he always would downtune, it sounds so dark and thick because he would crank a wall of Laneys and chug away at the lowest strings possible!

Toni used 8's in standard and 9's for Downtuned stuff which to my knowledge and CD's/Tapes was usually C#

I really respect that man, Even with so much being against him including the loss of a couple finger tips. The man was one of the founding fathers of metal. Kindof sucks that he doesnt get the respect he deserves from Alot of younger players.

yeah man, that right there is what made me play guitar. i figured if tony could make it big while losing two fingers, i've got a good chance especially since i lost only one.

Almost every great metal riff there is is either from Sabbat directly or very similar ;)
