Re: Hello, friends! I need advice about PAF humbuckers!
Ok check it, since the only trembuckers that MF offers are the Custom and JB (and I really want to use this coupon), I think I'm going to have to go with Dimarzio's take on the PAF, their 36th Anniversary. I've read good things about it though, so I guess it'll be pretty comparable.
Here's the kind of dumb question though:
The regular 36th Anniversary (DP103) can be used in either the neck or bridge position (they even have it with F-spacing), according to Dimarzio. From their site: "The PAF® 36th Anniversary Neck is smooth but not muddy. It performs equally well in the neck or bridge, just as the best humbuckers from the 50s did." It measures about 7.31k
The special bridge version of the 36th Anniversary (DP223) measures 8.6k.
The neck pickup I have in there now is the '59, which Duncan says measures 7.43k.
I ASK BECAUSE they only have the DP223 in black, cream, or zebra, and the DP103 is in a variety of colors, namely white. I was planning on having the above guitar a little more stock looking if possible.
So, the only real question is, get the slightly hotter bridge version DP223 in an off-color (and which one??), or get the all-purpose DP103 in a matching color. I'm not sure how accurate those measurements are across manufacturers. I know that most people like a slightly hotter bridge pickup for leads and stuff.
I don't know, what do you guys think?
