Hello Green Rhino...a long review...

Re: Hello Green Rhino...a long review...

OK, I just got back from GC and was happy to see they had a new Green Rhino on the demo board. My expectations were exceeded, even though I was playing a MIM strat into a Raven SS amp.

This pedal is amazing! I haven't been this excited by a pedal in years.
Even the store manager heard me playing through it, ran up and said "that's it, I'm buying one!" Then, he grabbed one of 3 left and rang himself up at the register. I plan on buying one, but didn't today. I will be back though. The Green Rhino is an instant classic. We'd better buy one before they realize they underpriced it and bump it to $170.

That 100Hz knob is what makes it great, like XSSIVE pointed out.
When you bump that up to about 2:00, the pedal's girth expands, creating a 'Way Huge' lead tone.

I only played it on a demo setup, but I can instantly tell how great it will sound through a cranked tube rig. The Green Rhino is going to make it harder for other pedals in it's price range to sell.....it blows them away.

Even if I don't need an overdrive, I admit that if I would be a US resident, I would probably shell out for a Green Rhino anyhow weirdly enough.
This thing truly seems to live up to all it's expectations so far, given they are selling them for 120 dollar at this time, I would not be able to resist one for sure. :)

However, I've just checked the prices on the Pork Loin (188 euro) and the Fat Sandwich (198 euro), if they are going to price the Green Rhino accordingly over here, I'll be passing on it.

Re: Hello Green Rhino...a long review...

thanks for the info! I am trying REALLy hard NOT to spend any money cuz Im broke and also, trying not to buy any pedals unless really warranted. I do Like a TS, but try not to spend money on "clones" or tweaked versions unless really better. So this can replace it.

Re: Hello Green Rhino...a long review...

So, XSSIVE, Would you say this would be your go to TS. Do you think it tops the others out there? I'm in the market for a TS type pedal and was considering an OCD or Barber LTD. Do you think I'd be better of with the GR? I've got a Swollen Pickel and I think it's a great pedal so I'm very intrigued.

Re: Hello Green Rhino...a long review...

I know Tubescreamers pretty well, having sold my vintage one to buy one of the first Fulltone Fulldrive II's in orange. Then a blue one, then a white custom shop.

I can say with confidence that the Green Rhino took it one step better than the Fulldrive II. The bass boost knob is the deal....because it cures everything wrong with prior tubescreamer clones.....the lack of low end.

The Green Rhino also has less off the clean/distortion mixture characteristic of original Tubescreamers. It's also bolder and less papery on the top end.

Thanks man! I think I'm gonna pick one up. I appreciate it!

Re: Hello Green Rhino...a long review...

everyones rigs, guitars and playing style are different thus why so many people like so many different pedals. however i'm still amazed at how well the rhino works on all 4 of my different amps and various playing styles over other TS style pedals i own, have owned and have tried. i'd say it's my favorite one i've come across so far. it has a better shot of being on more peoples boards than several other TS style pedals out there since it seems to address all the things people nit pick about when it comes to screamers and does it at a reasonable cost. speaking of cost, i like it even more than those 2 well known boutique $300+ swirl finished TS variations out there which i'll leave nameless.
