It is an English book by Helmuth Lemme who wrote the German language equivalent in 1977. I don't own the English version and can't say how much it is updated.
There is a lot of good stuff in there, especially:
Now, the problem is that (in the German edition) Lemme doesn't stop after the good stuff. After some brilliant analysis of many major factors in guitar sound he goes off and dismisses everything else as irrelevant, especially magnet material and like which obviously isn't true. Might be improved in the English edition but in any case you aren't dumb, you can ignore it.

- all that resonance peak, amplitude and frequency, and how to manipulate it
- why the pickup is a 2nd order low pass filter with resonance peak and how it reacts to impedance and capacitance loads
- how to measure the resonance peak, and measurement
- suggestions for less usual schematic, how to make active pickups with artifical resonance peak
- the diagrams that explain why nonlinear distortions with pickups close to the string occur even without using magnetic pull as an explanation
- a bunch of semi-interesting history and assorted hardware hacking
