Help Choosing Neck P/u

Ok, so I recently put a JB/Jazz combo in my '79 Ibanez Iceman, and I'm hot and cold about the Jazz P/U. I play metal/heavy blues/classic rock mostly and I guess I'm looking for a richer, higher gain smooth lead tone that can somewhat clean up when rolling off the volume. The Jazz is a little too clean and bright, not thick enough. I don't want scooped, though, but something creamy-some neck p/u tones I like would be Dave Murry, Chris Poland, Kirk Hammet, Pettrucci, Slash-I know these tones are all different, but I like them all, so what direction should I go? How about a Screamin' Demon? '59? Custom? Thanks guys

Alnico 2 Pro is the essence of smooth. It handles high gain really well and is warm. The '59 is a second choice. The A2 is what you want.

I hate to agree - I'm always looking to recommend a PG - but AP2 is what you want.

Re: Help Choosing Neck P/u

Generally, the AIIPro is regarded as having a little more treble than the PGn and it's sometimes refered to as having a bit of a single coil edge to the treble. I don't hear it exactly that way but that's how many here do describe it.

I'm thinking you might like the 59n...similar to the Jazz but more bass and a thicker tone.

However, Slash uses the AIIPro...you said you liked his tone so you might want to try that pickup next.
