Hey!
I want to built a 2x12 for my Orange Dark Terror and I need help choosing speakers.
I want a fat ,mid-rangy,full(but not muddy!) and clean sound for heavy Blues,Hard Rock and Metal, but also capable of producing good clean tones.
which speakers would you suggest? would you suggest a mix set or a matching set?
could you please give me both a suggestion for a "British" voicing and for an "American" voicing?

Thanks!

Re: help choosing speakers

Open or closed back cab?

V30s are great British vibe speakers in a closed back cab, and they handle the genres you're describing pretty well. With some amps/cabs they sound a bit shrill/forwards though, so often they're mixed with G12H30s which add in some additional bass frequencies.

Re: help choosing speakers

V30 and G12H30 are the answer to your question. One of the most popular celestion speaker combinations to date.

I'm selling an avatar cab with that combination, if you are interested let me know.

closed back.
but here is the thing ,I have an Eminence Private Jack which is essentially a Greenback, but with more power, and I HATE IT. I hate the fuzzy treble, early breakup and lack of bass and low-mid range . Since the G12H is based upon the early Greenbacks as far as I understand,It might not be the best option.

Re: help choosing speakers

Celestion Vintage 30 if you want sharper tones or Eminence Governor if you want smoother tones.

The G12M (Greenback) is not the same sounding speaker as the G12H.

I have a greenback and the G12H, and I can say they sound different some each other. I'd be able to tell which is which if I was blindfolded.

Re: help choosing speakers

I think this belongs in Amplifier Central, but my 2 cents on the question:

Celestion Vintage 30s

I'm not sure what to suggest for 'American' voicing. Assume that's a Fender sound. Might be worth looking at Jensen P12Q or Weber 12A125A or 12A125S maybe, but I don't have first-hand experience using these.

Re: help choosing speakers

The 'american' voicing side that I like is more along a blues/jazz/classic rock kinda sound . . . not necessarily great for heavier stuff and metal.

Re: help choosing speakers

Wgs et65. I also have a private jack. In a closed back i love it. It sounds the opposite of how you described it. In an open back, it loses the low mid juicey ness that i love and sounds exactly like you described.
Also, I never got along with vintage 30's. The only time I heard a set a liked, they we're beat to hell and cranked super loud.

Fist thing that came to my mind when I read your post was Emi Swamp Thang. Great sounding spkr. Lots of mids, smooth sounding, clear sparkling highs, full, rich bass, and overall warm clean sound.
