Help choosing

Good evening folks, first post here and hoping some of the more knowledgable folks can help decide on a new pu for my guitar.

I have a reissued 1994 Ibanez IC500 Iceman, mahogany body with maple cap, amp is an original Marshall Silver Jubilee 2550. Dont play out, but want something to smooth out and tighten the guitar tone.

Primarily listen and play mostly hard rock with the occasional metal. I dont get into crazy heavy distortion most of the time.

From what Ive heard and researched Im kinda liking the SD custom series, Custom, Custom Custom, Custom 5 or 59/Custom hybrid. Any of these I should take a closer look at or something Im missing?

Ive had a Duncan Distortion, realy liked that, Invader, Screamin Demon and Pearly Gates, either really didnt like those or were just kinda meh on.

So any info would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Re: Help choosing

The Custom will probably do what you want. Custom 5 is more scooped, Custom Custom is thicker mids.

The one and only

Niiiice

Since most subsequent Icemans (...Icemen?) were wholly differently spec'd, outsourced junk, you're probably gonna have a hard time finding much pickup info relevant to yours.

Probably best to consider pickup info for Les Pauls / ESP Eclipses and maybe Explorers as somewhat indicative of what your results might be like when doing research

Got thinking about it, I may be the original owner of the guitar. Whem I bought it, it would of been about the time they came out.

Good idea, Ill take a closer look at some of the pickup reviews in some of those guitars.

Re: Help choosing

If you like the Distortion and want something really versatile, you might look towards the Black Winter set. Here's some links to blog posts about them:

It's a phenomenal set that's highly versatile, despite what the name and aesthetics suggest. The bridge is like a more refined and modern Distortion, since you are used to that model. I think you'll like em.

Re: Help choosing

What about the Pegasus pickup or will that be more than what Im kinda looking for tonally.

Re: Help choosing

The Pegasus is what came to mind reading your description. It is marketed as a metal pickup but it does a lot more. The Custom and the Hybrid are also good choices. Pick the EQ and output level you want- they are all good.
