alright, ive only been playing guitar for a year.my carte 65watt guitar amp keeps humming every time i palm mute my e or a string, is this normal, or is there some way i can prevent the humming?

Re: help crate humming

first of all, you should wait more than 1 hour before bumping it, that being said,

crate solid state SUCK!!!

how to fix it:

sell it! if you dont have too much money (50-400), buy another solid state (not line 6 or crate) , or if you do ($400-xxxx), buy a TUBE amp!!

but now that my hate writing about crate solid state is over...

i dont think its the amp. its most likely the guitar. but just to make sure, get a screwdriver, and make sure all the screws in the amp are nice and tight.

what guitar do you have, and which 65watt crate do you have (not that it matters, all their solid state suck!!)

Re: help crate humming

I wish we all could help you but sadly, that's just what a crate does. Your best bet would to just get used to it until a new amp can be afforded. You can, however, help it by having good pickups and it not being near flourenscent lights or a crt computer monitor.

Re: help crate humming

most likely you're guitar control cavity isn't shielded, or not shielded very well. or the cable you're using is bad, or the pickups blow. the amp is probably fine, and crates aren't that bad, especially for home usage. I plug into my 15-watter at home all the time, and the clean channel takes OD pedals well too.

Re: help crate humming

How clean is the power in your house or wherever you're using it? Get a good grade powerstrip, preferably one with good surge protection and shielding from the computer store, and plug it in to that. Most hum in amps is caused from dirty power, not just the amp.

Saying that's just what Crates do is purely uneducated and retarded.

A poorly shielded guitar will hum as well no matter what pickups are in it.
