Help Diagnosing Noise, I have data...

Hi all,

replaced the pickups in a epiphone Dot, quick job as I'm planning on a full rewire one day!

My Neck pickups has noise issues though. Here's the rundown.

Was 'fading' in and out, so I pulled the volume pot and rewired it, checked all connections, there is a bit of wire 'under' the pickguard as the leads are quite long.

Now I've checked everything I've got nose WHEN i'm touching the strings, If I touch the strings and pickup housing or a slug together then it stops.

the Bridge pickup is dead silent so that steers me away from the issue being the ground wire or the output jack. It could be the 3 way I guess but that's new as the old one was an obvious dud.

Any suggestions on how to further narrow down the possibilities?

Thanks in advance!
Stuart

Pickups are GFS retrotrons. Black ground wire + braided shield. I took the braid and the ground wire and both are to ground... (twisted together)

Maybe the bridge pickup is wired with shielded wire and the neck pickup isn't.

Do you have a dmm? You can test for continuity with it if it has short detection setting, or by switching to the lowest dcr setting. If you do the latter, touch the two probes together in that setting to see what your shorted resistance is so you can calibrate it to your measurements
