Hails Guys... inspired in the CRON Thread... here i GO.

i want to know, from all of you, in special the luthiers(professionalsthat work building guitars)what´s the tonal differences between this combination of woods.

think : normal 6 string guitar. normal crap stock pups, floyd rose gotoh bridge.
24 jumbo frets. no pickguard. pickups mounted direct in the body wood. H-Hconfiguration.

here´s the questions : What will be the differences between this :
1 - a neck made of maple and a rosewood fretboard , and a mahogany body.
2 - The same , but with mahogany neck and maple body. rosewood fingerboard.

Re: HELP!Difference between those 2 woods

While I'm no luthier, here's my .02:

1) Safe bet. Mahogany will make the guitar warm. A maple neck will add a bit of brightness and the rosewood fretboard should smoothen out the top end a bit.

2) I forsee problems here. Maple body = very very bright and harsh. Mahogany neck won't be enough to warm it up or get rid of the inherit brightness. The rosewood fingerboard won't make any difference in this case.

Re: HELP!Difference between those 2 woods

Maple is obviously bright. My Blueshawk is poplar (top)/maple (back), mahogany neck. It sounds good to me. Poplar is similar to alder in sound. It's hard to say how warm it is acoustically because it's a hollow body. the pickups are pretty warm as well. I would say most likely that the neck does not play much of a part in its acoustic sound, however.
