Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you put a fat-thin jack lead from the headphone socket into your mic socket on your pc! but be warned, it still wont be freat.
easy thing would be 2 buy a new mic

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANd if you havent a headphone socket on your amp then best thing to do is connect the pedals out into your line in on yout soundcard..The quality wont be great but it might be better.

get a sm57 if u can... you'll need the adaptor as mentioned by y2stevo....

soundcard... any ole soundblaster cheapie will get you by... although the better quality you get the better sound (eg. audigy?)

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no,no, no..

i dont know whata soundcard is. :D

would the sm57 be able to just be plugged in int the 1/8th mic jack?

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also, so i could use the the line in from my comp to my amp and then record there?

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the sm57 will be a balanced XLR (that 3 pin thing) .. you'll need an adapter (or 2 or 3) to go from XLR to the tiny 1/8" mic input on the back of your computer .. and be careful to start with a low level so as not to blow out the computer's input

a sound card is inside your computer and basically handles all the audio functions ... it takes the digital signals made by your computer and turns them into analog signals that can come out the speakers .. it also converts the analog signals from a mic or line in and converts them to digital so you can make mp3s or wavs or whatever

some less expensive computers have a (low quality, but useable) sound card function built right onto the main computer circuit board so there is no separate sound card .. but most computers have a separate sound card that is dedicated to just sound

hope this helps .. good luck

yes, you could take a line out signal from your amp (pre amp out?) and connect it to the line in on your computer ... again, be careful of the levels so as not to blow out your computer line input ... i am pretty sure that you dont want to connect a headphone out from your amp to line in because it will sound crappy

good luck

ok,, then would i be able to use tha clans and distortion on my amp into the computer? or would it just be the clean signal?

it wouldn't be hard to find all those adapters for the amp right?

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

right - your amp tone (minus speaker contributions) would go straight in ... distorted or clean, however you have it set

yeah, it's alot easier to find the adapters to go 1/4" out of the amp to 1/8" into the computer

good luck

I can't emphasize this too strong . . . if you're going to record, you must get the one single piece of equipment thats purpose built for this function . . .

. . . a mixer.

Even a cheap $40 Behringer is better than futzying around with the wrong stuff.

Get a mixer! :laugh2:

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they have kits with break out boxes and software for under $400 now. I really can't see getting a tone I'd be happy with by plugging into the soundcard.

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

read my lips:

get the ****ing microphone!

=P i said it before. your sound is all fuzzy and bassy and crappy because of it. unless you want to buy somehting like a line6 pod or the guitarport, the mic is your best bet. the sound will aprove mucho. you could also get a mix board
but IMO, if you get the mic and the mixer, you're better off to put some more dough into it and get the line6 guitar port

just the mic wont get you the versatility of the guitar port, but maybe it's to expencive for you. whats your budget?

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, as of right now i have $60 in my pocket.
thing is, i like the tones i get from my marshall but dont really know yet if i want to get a POD. but since the versatility with the pod is so great and i'd be able to use it in jazz abnd at school, i dont know. i may save up and get a pod or just get a better mic.

listen i dont know physically how to use all these things you guys are telling me of! i dont know how i would connect the POD to my computer and about the mic, i still dont know what to do other than the mic jack. and about a mixer, im lost at that point.

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mic jack to the microphone connector in your soundcard. every one has it.

the pod and guitarport i believe (well the guitar port has it) can be connected to the USB

i dont quite know what you'd be doing with the mixer either lol.. line in probably

the guitar port will cost you around 150 i think. the mic (sm57 costs 80$ here alone) but the guitar port is 10000 times more versatile

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

awh damn't!

i was looking at mixers in this sam ash catalog, and i see a few that are relatively cheep. lke $70-$80, but i dont really know if they'd be all that good since it's so low. one says it has 6, 2 mic/line channels, 2 stereo channels, it's $80?

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help Em With My Tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, they are cheap .. but surprisingly good for their price .. they are not of a quality to record your debut CD with, but they are very good to help you get a good tone to 'tape' or 'disk', as it were ... you'll probably always be able to keep it around for little projects .. the mic preamps alone will come in handy from time to time .. if you get into a band and need a small rehearsal PA, this could help you out in a pinch if you just add a powered speaker or two .. it can be a monitor mixer .. or it can provide for a drum sub mix some day .. they really are quite versatile and make alot of the things you 'd want to do (like record into your computer) a whole lot easier and higher quality results

good luck
