Long time no see yah Right!?
i just traded , and traded, and traded, and traded and end up with an Epiphone Flying V (i believe a Reed 58. not sure at all)

i previously bought a Kramer Baretta 404. made in korea.. and it has an horrible Finish , bad frets, bad neck/body joint.. and to shorten up the story, the body(neck thru, i cna´t believe they did this) is Made of some kind of Plywood. i open up the springs cavity and i saw somethign similar to a Waffle. Am i right!? it was horrible..
now i´m affraid this epiphone Has the same "Waffle" Body.
so, is there any way to make sure i´m getting a Good Epiphone, with REAL BODY AND NECK wood? not a plywood or MDF thing?

i think i´ll get either another (if this one is plywood/MDF)flying V, or a Schecter 7 strings.

the site says that the body is made of Mahogany, but i really can´t believe that, the guitar weight´s so less.

thank´s in Advance

Re: Help! Epiphone Flying V. ANy Good?

Hey dude. There have always been questions about what Epiphone is really using, but if it's not mahogany, it's typically alder. I don't think I've ever heard any accusations of them using plywood on their "real" guitars.

I used to have a '58 Goth V, and it felt like it weighed nothing, too, but it was real wood.

Check in the control cavities/pickup routs, you can see if it's wood or not (I'm betting it is, cheap though). Those Epiphones are only Korina veneer, I could see it being Mahogony.

Thank´sFor the tips
i just opened the controlcavity on my flying V and it´s Painted in Black..like conduvtive Paint.
i sanded a littel with a screwdriver.. and i couldn´t see to much

Thank´s for the help.. So.. it´s better to stay away from these guitars right?

Re: Help! Epiphone Flying V. ANy Good?

I really liked the Goth V. If it had big frets, I wouldn't have gotten rid of it. I don't see anything wrong with them, so long as you like it.

Re: Help! Epiphone Flying V. ANy Good?

From what you reported the Kramer was horrible on so many levels. Your concern about the Epiphone is legit however there was no mention of how you like it or what kind of condition/quality it had in comparison. To repeat and add to an earlier comment if you like it and it sounds good then what it's made of shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Re: Help! Epiphone Flying V. ANy Good?

Well, i really liked the Neck shape. pretty good and confortable.
the weight is similar to the kramer... althought, i really doubt it is mahogany. may be CEDAR of something lightweight..
i´m taking pics right NOW.
The sound is better, but both sounds Weak.
in comaprison i´ll give the Epiphone an 7, and the kramer a 3,5
