help finding a solid state amp

Hi again... i am finishing my "equipment inversion". after the bunch of money paid for the recto, i need now a solid state amp for practising at home...

i´ve had already peavey transtubes (envoy and studio pro) and a line 6 spider II, but never get happy enough with them... which alternative can i choose then?

i´ve always heard a lot of good things about randall, and recently about the roland cube 60... and also marshall mg/avt... which one do you think has the best distorted sound at "low" volumes?

thanks again, waiting for your replies

Re: help finding a solid state amp

I got a cube-15, its pretty good id say for the cash. No complaints (although the "metal-stack" setting is a swarm of bees!). Check out the cubes i say.

+1 Roland Cube 15/Cube 30's are pretty impressive for home practicing.

thanks for the replies about the cube..

Re: help finding a solid state amp

Just get an attenuator for the Recto.

Re: help finding a solid state amp

Randall G2 is very powerfull but it`s not too versatile. Mad amp, but it`s speaker can choke and fart in that almost completely closed box when you crank it.
I went for Laney, much more versatile and natural sounding amp. Great amp for that price. It lacks bass when compared to randall, (not thin sounding, just less bass) but it`s open back combo, so it can be fixed.
If you need solidstate amp for bonecrushing sound, randall will surely deliver.

Re: help finding a solid state amp

Get a Vox Valvetronix AD60 head, rather than any combo. Then, use it on your Mesa 2-12, and get the Vox to sound like a lower volume version of your Recto.
Luckily, the best highgain tone on the Vox is the Recto setting with one of the 3 OD models. I've used a lot of amps, and the Valvetronix head is by far the best SS amp I've ever owned. The cleans, midgains, and gain sound just like a tube amp at reasonable volume levels. Plus it's got a tuner, FX, OD models, headphone, noise gate, recording out, and variable wattage knob. It sounds as good as a Vetta at a fraction of the cost.

good advice. valvetronix AD60 is probably the best amp i heard in that class.

that 2 options would be great, but i forget to say (well i think it was obvious, sorry) that the mesa won´t stay here much time as long as i can´t put the volume up to 10 o'clock and i bought it to gig and/or play with a band... i want the solid state amp as a replacement/home practising... thanks a lot anyway

You could always try out a roland jazz chorus too . . .
Always my choice, just an awful amp for any "heavy" kind of music, even with a pedal.

Re: help finding a solid state amp

for home practice i use a roland cube - doesn't matter which size, they're all ok

i also like the crate powerblock, if your home setup allows a little cab

a friend of mine has a Crate GT65. it's not to bad for a solid state soution
without modeling

just my 2cents
