Help for blower switch + kill switch for Seymour Duncan 35th Anniv.

Hey there,

Been a loyal Duncan user for years, finally registered with the forum!

I have a problem that I can not solve on my own. I've done quite a bit research on this but so far no positive results.

I want to have a blower switch and kill switch mod on my Ibanez AR300RE (MIK).

My Ibanez AR300RE is a Korean made replica, it has originally 2 volume & 2 tone pots which I upgraded to CTSs couple of months ago along with Seymour Duncan 35th Anniv. pups.

What I want to do is removing two tone pots and install one 3dpdt mini switch as a blower switch and one on/off switch as a kill switch.

First of all, is it possible to have these two switches at the same time?

I have the switches at the moment, I was planning to apply this mod but as I mentioned I couldn't solve the puzzle.

So to sum up;

I want to wire my bridge pickup (SD 35th. Anniv. JB / Single Wire) to 3dpdt switch in order to have blower switch mod and also I want to use a second on/off switch to just to switch on or off my guitar volume.

Can anyone help me with the wiring? Here I provide the basic diagram without the wires :)

Cheers

I might be able to help, but first . . . what's a "blower" switch? :scratchch

I remember having one of these on our coal furnace in 1961. You probably want something different. ;)

it's for being able to jump straight into your bridge pickup with everything bypassed (tone, volume, pickup selector switch position...etc). So I could have two different vol settings for each pickup by using two individual vol pots and then jump straight into full bridge hb without having to play with vol settings.

If you have a look at Guthrie Govan model Suhr guitars, you'll get what I mean. I think it's also called Passing Lane Mod by Fender.

Thanks for help.

You can track down diagrams for blower switches via google.

The kill switch is the interesting idea. Do you mean a kill switch that is either on or off or a kill button that just kills the output when the button is depressed, like Scott Ian's "button of doom", or whatever it's called? If memory serves, the main output still goes through the blower, so putting the kill switch after the blower should take care of you.

Ah, I've already got one of these drawn up. You just have to wait 'til I get home this evening to post it.
I called this a bridge-override switch.

A blower switch connects the bridge humbucker straight to the output jack, skipping the controls. Just for reference, a killswitch shorts the hot output to ground.

Yeah Artie, it's that one I asked you for earlier this year.

Oops. Did I forget? :banghead:

Thanks for replies :) I'll give it a try by using blower switch diagrams. But don't think I'll manage. I have difficulties with mini-switch pin connections. I've never got the logic! :P

Sorry man. I've just got too many irons in the fire, so to speak. I'll get to this very soon. :)

Re: Help for blower switch + kill switch for Seymour Duncan 35th Anniv.

If you wish to keep your tone knobs, you could do push/pull blower switches, and add a push/kill switch.

Hey, I just got some help from an other local forum and it all works perfectly!

I'll be writing a blog post and record some video demos for the mod. Stay in tune! :)
