Help! Hum that goes away when touching strings.

Re: Help! Hum that goes away when touching strings.

From what I gathered so far, my best bet would be to completely rewire the whole thing with shielded cable and maybe do a star grounding. But I have one more question: I see the main contenders for guitar wire are the 22 AWG cloth covered wire and the 22 AWG braided/shielded wire. Which one would you choose between these two? And would the cloth cable wire offer any more shielding from noise then the standard pvc wires?

Fine. If you don't want to read up in the science suit yourself.

Again, I've (likely) worked on more guitars than you. I'm too tired to try and explain.

Your body acts like an antenna. Not 'can act'. It does. Other guitars can be dead quiet with excessive shielding. Cheap guitars are often heavily shielded with shielding paint etc.

A humbuckers bucks the hum perfectly cause if they didn't you'd still have hum even when you touch the strings.

You are the cause of the hum, not the guitar. learn the science.

Again, I've no idea where you're coming off with that attitude. I didn't say I'm an expert. I just said my other guitars don't hum even when I let go of the strings. And I guess that's as empirical as it gets lol.

The fact is that none of my other guitars hum given the same conditions with or without touching the metal parts. And this one does. And if you don't want to accept the facts I'm giving you then your input here is not required.

I'm glad you work on many guitars and also keep a tab on the guitars I work on. That's cool. But do try getting off your high horse. Who knows, you might actually learn something as well ;). Besides being less rude, that is.

Re: Help! Hum that goes away when touching strings.

This is normal. Means your guitar is wired correctly.

Blame the wiring of the building you're in, certain monitors and lightbulbs, etc.

It's not your guitar.

Re: Help! Hum that goes away when touching strings.

Normal. REALLY normal. ****, go walk around your room. You may notice that the hum disappears in some areas and becomes unbearable in others.
