So, I was polishing my Strat's frets last night with some steel wool. Although I taped my pickups off to protect them from the steel shards, I stupidly used a strong magnet to clean up some steel wool pieces off the guitar's body when I was done polishing.
End Result: my beloved ssl 1/ssl 1/ssl 5 set-up sounds weak and not the same as it did (the neck pickup is now the weakest, as it was exposed to the clean up magnet the longest).
My Questions:
1. Is there any way to remagnatize/regauss the pickups and get them back to original specs? If so, how?
2. Will the pickups (once they're remagnatized/regaussed) be able to sound as good as they once did and be up to the same exacting specs as the originals, or will I just be remagnatizing the pickups in a non-specific/non-controlled way, so they'll sound stronger, but they won't sound like they used to?
3. Should I just bag it, shuck out $150 for three new replacements, consider this an expensive lesson learned and my payback for not paying better attention in my high school science classes?
I really appreciate any advice...thank you!!!
