Help ID this Hamer electric

I picked up this Hamer electric guitar, and it doesn't have a lot of markings. It looks a bit like a Californian to me, but I cannot find any images online with a similar finish, nor can I find the combination of one S, one HB, volume, tone, 3-way, and on-on-on/phase switch.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be? American made or import? What woods are used?

Approximate value?

Thanks!
-Pete

Looks like walnut, says USA. I bet it's the real deal American made. I'm not a Hamer authority though.

Welcome to the forum

Looks like a Californian. The stamped 6-digit serial starting with an 8 I believe makes it a 1988 guitar. I believe the tone and split switch were either added later, or it was a custom-ordered guitar.

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

Actually that is beautiful Honduran Mahogany made into a decent looking stripped and refined 1988 Californian. USA for sure. $500 to $600 Would be my guess but maybe lil less due to the refin. That said I hate Floyds but I WANT that based on the serial number alone. Looks like a pickup change to the bridge but without knowing if it has a label under it I don't know. Don't believe they had Dimarzio Super Distortions in them and that looks like one.

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

Thanks for the info, everyone! I really appreciate it. Now to decide whether to hang onto it or find it a new home. Must be a Hamer fan who will take good care of it...

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

Definitely not a Super D.

Silver baseplate, black hex screws....probably a full shred.

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

nice. i have a chaparral from around that same time and when i stripped the body, it looked similar. nice slab of mahogany! its my only floyd loaded axe and has been for a while

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

Any ideas on how to get some of those scratches out without refinishing it again?

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

You could take all the hardware off and try buffing it out but that might not take out most of those. The pictures you have on FB are bigger and some of those in the body closeup are not nice dings. To me they add character, to many they represent how much they wanna take off what you want to move it. :dunno: You know how much you paid for it and you know what it would take to flip it and make you happy should that be the case. Speaking of cases, does it have the original case and what's it look like?

Re: Help ID this Hamer electric

Just seeing the word "HAMER" makes my heart jump, have 2 at home, and have no intention of ever getting rid of them....
