Help identify the year this pickup was manufactured?

Re: Help identify the year this pickup was manufactured?

Hard to nail down the exact year... but, it's not a REALLY old one.... probably mid to late 90's

The black tape has almost always crossed onto the bottom plate with 2-conductor duncans.

What characteristics would indicate if one of these pickups was specifically made in the mid 1980's? What would I look for?

The sticker for one. Usually the early stuff in the 80's the sticker seemed to have a glossy kind of texture to it, almost like it went through the potting process with wax residue on it. Also the font is different and kind of a bluish color to it. The sticker on the pickup you posted looks like a laser printer with clear crisp black text, also the paper is kind of a matter finish but sort of like a fax machine paper.

There are also differences with the baseplate one says Seymour Duncan made in the USA and the other is worded different, I forget which is which. Usually the older pickups also only have a baseplate with 6 holes for pole pieces. Newer Duncans have 12 holes on the baseplate, regardless if the pickup even has any adjustable pole pieces. (Anyone have a recent Stag Mag to see if it also has 12 holes on the baseplate?)

Here is a picture to help...

From left to right...

Early/Mid 80's = plain baseplate, rough sticker, no winder initial(probably all done by Seymour)

Mid/Late 80's = large logo, rough sticker, winder's initial... MJ was a busy girl during the 80's... especially JB's for Kramer!

Late 80's/early 90's = small logo w/Made In America, rough sticker, winder's intial

The one you have pictured is pre-universal baseplate as Fusion1 has indicated... I would say mid-90's

BTW... the 59B, CUSTOM on the left and the CUSTOM in the middle are all DOUBLE CREAM... pre-DiMarzio patent B.S.!
