help identifying pickup

i tried to search through the forum with the search tool and i couldn't find too much info...here's what info i do have.

the pickup is a single coil with staggered pole pieces (i.e. APS-1 or SSL-1). the wires were cloth braided and the sticker on the back of the pickup reads "1-R". from the pickup sticker list it appears that the 1 denotes it being a SSL-1, but i'm unsure what the R stands for.

anyone know?

Welcome to the forum dude!

Take a look here.

It might help you out. If not, surely one of the other and much more knowledgable guys will give you some good info.

*EDIT*
:smack: I see you already read that list.. my bad. Based on that, I guess the closest thing is your guess.

i'm mostly curious about the "R"...is it possible that the "R" denotes "reverse wound", and if so, does that really affect the sound in a non-Strat guitar (I have a Fender Jagstang and the "1-R" is in the neck position with a SH-4 in the bridge.)

Re: help identifying pickup

I would think reverse wound pickups would have a modified sound in any guitar, not just a strat. But then again I don't know much about them. Someone else will surely help you out soon enough.

hmmm...i always thought that you reverse wound the middle pickup in a strat to make it noise-cancelling in the 2-4 positions.

That is correct. And I'm sure your pup is a RWRP SSL-1. I have an older SSL-6 that I know is RWRP, and its sticker says "6R".

Having your pup be RWRP will also affect which coil of a humbucker that you'ld want to split to, to make the pair noise-cancelling. Unfortunately, I can't tell you which though.

RW/RP has zero effect on sound in ANY guitar..it´s only to provide hum canceling in positions 2 and 4

if you wire up duncan humbuckers according to the Site´s diagrams, the proper pickup for hum cancelling performance will be standard wound... if you´ve intentionally reversed the phase of and hums (or they were accidentally wound that way), then you´ll need a RW/RP version becasue you´re splitting to the other coil ;)

Re: help identifying pickup

I have a Kramer Pacer II Custom. And the pickups are marked 1R. I thought it was a APS-1. I've never heard about SSLs in Kramer Pacer..
