Help!!! I'm Becoming a Strat Guy...

Re: Help!!! I'm Becoming a Strat Guy...

My soundguy has one of those MIJ contemporary strats.

Here's the ticket: hardtail strat with twangbanger bridge, two strat pickups, blend pot and tele neck. Best of both worlds.

Reading the thread title, I had this picture of you actually turning into a strat guy. Like literally.

Re: Help!!! I'm Becoming a Strat Guy...

I've come to the conclusion that my favorite guitars are Strats, Pauls, and McCarties.
I like Tele's too, but those 3 are what I'm happiest playing.

Before buying a strat, consider an American Strat made after 2000...The American Series. I've had lotsa strats, and really love the newest ones because the "rolled fingerboard edges" really make a difference. The electronics are fine too, although a set of Surfers will end your search. I was playing my 97 Am Std and my 2001 American Series strat last night and the neck on the 2001 just feels like a worn in old pair of Levi's. Get one new/used for about $550-$600. Much better than any import and almost equal to most Custom Shops. Like you said, it's in the setup. Also, get one with the plastic nut, rather than the metal one.....they sound much better.

Didn't you have an Albert Lee Music Man a while back? Better than a Strat IMHO.

Yes, that Albert Lee has got to be the best Strat-type guitar out there once you get past its looks....

Ah, confession. Good for the soul. Bad for the reputation, but good for the soul.

Hello. My name is Steve, and I own a Strat...

Re: Help!!! I'm Becoming a Strat Guy...

I wouldn't buy a Malmsteen strat.
I'd just get an american standard or Highway 1 and upgrade the pickups to the Antiquities. This way you'll capture the truest strat vibe.

The pickups in the malmsteen strat are stacked humbuckers, so they're geared for distortion, not chimy bell tone strat sounds.

Re: Help!!! I'm Becoming a Strat Guy...

Super jumbo frets will give you pretty much the same playability as a malmsteen strat..

What's wrong with the way it looks? That's the first thing that attracted me to the guitar. Different is good IMHO. Personally, I'd take an Albert Lee over at Strat any day of the week.
