HELP! Impedance question for MESA Rectoverb

I just picked up a bass cab that I wanna hook up to my Rectoverb, hehehe.. time to drown out my bass player!!! The cab has dual 8" speakers and a 15" sub. I was considering selling it but I think I'm gonna try it out with the combo but I also love the internal Black Shadow. The sweetest part about the cab is that it has 2 seperate 4-ohm inputs for the 8"s and the 15". The amp has 3 speaker outs, 8 ohm, 4 ohm, 4 ohm. The 8 ohm is for the combo speaker and the 4 ohms are for 2 (respective) 4-ohm noise boxes. Is it safe to run the combo speaker and the bass cab simultaneously, with all three speaker outs stuffed like a muff? :smokin:

Re: HELP! Impedance question for MESA Rectoverb

Uh oh, so, as of last night I'm getting VERY little sound from the amp. Everything else in the rig is checks out fine, but the output knob does very little other than adding some crackle which used to be non-existant.. also used to be loud as f*ck at 2 and now it's at level 8 in my apartment. I hope I just need new power tubes... the preamp ones seem to be ok even though the master volume per channel also doesn't add much volume; I wouldn't expect it to.

Now I have to decide between EL34s and 6l6s... never been an EL34 fan quite frankly cause of Marsh*itt but maybe MESA can handle 'em...

You can run your Mesa Recto-Verb with either an 8 ohm load (connected to the single 8 ohm jack); OR

You can run it at 4 ohms. That means: ONE 4 OHM Speaker (connected to ONE of the FOUR OHM jacks; OR ...

TWO 8 OHM speakers, one connected to each of the 4 OHM jacks.

If you connect the Recto-Verb's internal speaker AND the 1516 cab, you will almost certainly damage the amp. That is too low a load for that amp, and you will probably damage the tubes and the transformer.

If you need any further clarification, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that ytou call the Mesa Boogie Tech Support. You can find that number on the Mesa website at mesaboogie.com.

Good luck,

Bill

Thanks for the clarification... I guess the cab with dual 4-ohm ins is worthless as far as the Rectoverb is concerned... but my 8-ohm Marshall and Fender 4x12s should sound sweet as soon as I pop in some EL34s, thanks again Bill
