Basically its however they sound best to you, which is at least in my mind, really one of the best things about individual stomp boxes over multi fx units which typically have a fixed routing.
The reason you got the certain pedals you did, say the Small Clone over another chorus pedal was it was the one that sounded best to your ears. Pedal order is the same way. One man may like a modulation after a delay and another before.
Just play around with the order and see what suits your taste, theres no right or wrongs and you can't damage anything but hooking them up "wrong".
I don't even like fixed pedal boards because that tends to limit one because once things are attached, you don't want to switch them.
Its quite fun and inspiring sometimes to just throw them into a random order and see what happens such as the distortion after the wah instead of before it. Takes you to totally different places due to the different tones.
