HELP...looking for the perfect starting bass guitar for a band

Whats up...i need help...i am the lead vocals for my band and our bassist just ****ed us over by leaving....im thinking of learning bass....then maybe finding another vocals...so i need ideas for bass guitars and amps...and also whether thats a good idea.....but i could also do both...if im that talented lol

I bought myself a fender standard series MIM Jazz Bass for recording...Love it! Good price vs quality with the MIM Fender stuff..Not sure what your budget is though?

What did your previous bassist use? Use that as a guide for what you want to get for yourself. If you are into rock - then get yourself a (Fender) Precision - otherwise get an active bass something in the Ibanez, Aria, Yamaha which will be easier to play.

For bass amps you are talking about getting lots of clean headroom - so a minimum of 120W, maybe more 200-300W. If the sound you are after is predominantly low end - then get a combo with a 15" speaker. I could go on about lots of things but, as others have said we need some more information on budget, type of music and if you play the guitar. Post in the guitar room for some more advice but give some more info when you are there.

depends on how much your willing to spend. if you want a cheap 180 dollar bass go with a ibanez gsr100. i dont know why i like that bass so much but it just feels so good. put in some SD quarter pounders and lower the action to like 1mm..........hell yeah
