Help me choose a multi-effects pedal please!!!

Hi, i am looking to buy a multi fx pedal to use with my solid state peavey bandit 112.

I mainly want such a unit because i cannot afford individual pedals and i want more tones to play around with. Not sure modellers are the way to go, probably effects processors are more the thing for me.

I like multi effects units to have at least a few foot switches on them so i don't have to keep bending down etc.

also a headphone socket would be great as the bandit doesn't have one and i am selling the microcube. please nobody suggest i keep the microcube, its ok for what it is but it's not programmable enough at all.

the ability to save settings is also very important to me.

units i have considered so far are:

Boss ME-50
Korg ax1500g
Korg ax3000g
Zoom g7
Zoom g9

these all seem to be in my price range even if i have to go second hand, i'd like the unit to have an expression pedal attatched if possible.

i play many styles from metal to folky clean stuff. My amps onboard distortion is pretty decent and the cleans are clean. this means that the units distortion capabilities aren't overly important and the clean channel of the amp should accomodate a pedal ok.

i don't know a great deal about multi effects. would the tubes in the zoom pedals i listed help my sound?

i need the sound to be decent at low volumes, bedroom volumes, but i also play with another guitarists and a drummer just messing around etc.

my budget is around £130 max, thats about $250 i think

The zooms look interesting especially the G9.2tt. If it was me id sell the peavey and get a vox valvetronix (maybe AD30) as it has amp models (that sound better then solid state) and effects and i think u can plug in an expression pedal but that isnt reallly what ur looking at is it.

rocktron utopia is a good affordable pedal, but boss effects sound better. if you don't need amp modeling, get the one i'm going to get: the me-20

I started out with a Korg and I really like it. I got some great tones out of it. I've got no rservations about recommending it.

haven't tried the others you listed but I've always liked the Vox.

Check eBay for Boss GT series and DigiTech GNX series processors. Even the older and lower-end versions are awesome. The DigiTech GNX series is a lot different from their RP series.

I had a Vox ad15vt which was pretty nice but it lacked the flexibility i was looking for. The peavey with a multi effects seems more what i am after.

I've gone and bought an old Korg ax1000g for £45 which i feel is a very decent price. even if i don't stick with this pedal it should give me a better idea of what i want for the long run. It will give me some experience with korg effects for one thing.

i will also make use of the sampler/recorder and the recording facility that allows you to record a part of a song from a cd via the aux input and then slow it down or even hold a note without effecting pitch. these features along with loads of effects,amp and cab models for £45 isn't bad at all i don't think.

i also like that it can be used as a collection of seperate stomp boxes to a certain extent. If things go well with this pedal i wil look to buy a better one in the near future. The boss me50 was high on my list because of the cost and apparant quality but obviously there are better than that if i am really serious!

any thoughts?

i've always like the various Boss MultiFX units that have come out....

but a side effect of the modeling craze is the fact that most modern MultiFX units rae modelers and do not always work well in front of a real guitar amp.... they work better for recording and direct to PA systems... even into keyboard amps... they need the full range amp and speaker to reproduce the modeler's sound banks...

my old 1989 Roland GP8 rack unit i bought for $20 in a garage sale works extremely well in front of an amp because it is basicly Boss effects with a controller built in.....

i'm on the hunt for more older multifx units before modeling units came out.... some were good some were cr*p

Is the boss me50 a modeller do you know? ideally i would rather have a selection of stomp box type pedals built into one unit rather than a modelling unt.

also though, i have heard people say tha the clean channel on my peavey bandit takes mdellers quite well as it is close to sounding like a clean keyboard amp or pa. i don't know much about that though
